DreamWisp Nasal CPAP Mask and Leaks

Post by Mecate13 » Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:23 pm

Hello, I'm looking for some information on the Philips Respironics DreamWisp Nasal CPAP Mask (with cushion). I've been on my cpap machine for over two months and have been very happy with this experience. Has anyone had a positive experience with this mask?

For the first two months I have been very happy to just be able to sleep with the mask on all night and I've been able to sleep 8 hours almost every night. I'm ready now to learn about leakage as the leakage is waking me up sometimes 3 or 4 times.

Right now I only have myAir and I've downloaded some of the information. AHI is about an average of 4.1. 95% leakage average is 17.1 Can you tell me what is an ok score for the 95% leakage?

I'm so sorry this is all jumbled up and I do want to get Oscar but I'm not that good with computers but I will have to learn this. Any bit of information/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much. Elizabeth

95% numbers just mean that for 95% of the night you were at OR BELOW that number. The "or below" part of the definition is real important.

ResMed machines report excess leak only. ResMed has given us 24 L/min leak as the line in the sand where large leak territory begins......I personally think that is an ultra conservative number and 30 to 35 L/min is more likely to be when a leak starts impacting therapy and effectiveness.

ResMed allows for up to 30% of the night being in large leak (over 24 L/min) before it gives us Mr Frowny for leak management. That may not sound like much but it takes a lot of large leak to add up to 30% or more.

So if someone was just wanting to go by a number....that 24 L/min is a good conservative milestone.
My own personal number where I might get a bit worried is 35 L/min and then what I do is look to see just how much time I spent with leaks over 30/35 L/min. If it isn't very prolonged I shrug my shoulders and move on.
So....your 17 L/min 95% number is well within that parameter.

BUT any leak no matter how big or little that wakes us up is unwanted because it is messing with our sleep.
If you had said 17 L/min and the leaks never wakes me up then I would say that 17 L/min is an okay leak rate.

I can't help with your DreamWisp question. I have never used the Wisp beyond a very brief trial years ago.
I didn't like it at all so I never bothered to try their new Wisp version. I won't wear any mask that touches my nasal bridge area of my nose.

I have been using the DreamWisp Mask for 1 week now. I would get leaks at the nasal mask in the middle of the night, enough to wake me up. I would have to take the entire mask off and reseat it on my head to get the leaks to stop. I found that by tightening to mask with the Velcro portion to the point where it seemed a little tight/snug seemed to eliminate the leaks from the mask.

My problem seems to be that I'm using the ResMed AirSense 11, and the hose coming from the CPAP machine to my mask doesn't seat as well as when I was using a ResMed N30i mask. Air is hissing out at the hose connection to the mask, so my 95% leak rate is around 30-40 -- but the number of AHI events has dropped to < 1 event per night since my sleep doctor adjusted my pressure from 8 PSI fixed to 5-15 PSI. I wonder if there is some rubber gasket that I could put on the hose to mask connection to reduce the air loss.
