An overlooked source of distilled water
An overlooked source of distilled water
It just occurred to me that my basement portable dehumidifier which does not empty thru its hose and whose full tamk I've manually emptied in the basement drain, is an endless source of DW. At least during wet seasons.
Re: An overlooked source of distilled water
If it's in your basement and the basement has moisture, isn't it likely there could be mold in the basement and mold spores floating about in the air which probably are drawn into the water droplets? It is sort of distilled, but it's water that I usually just use for my wife's iron or just removed to the washing machine.

Re: An overlooked source of distilled water
So the "Must used distilled water" craze has taken us to this.
Yes, the water that drips out of dehumidifier is initially distilled.
It's also absolutely filthy and full of bacteria, dirt, dust, and other pathogens that collect on the dehumidifier coils and other parts as it runs into the tank.
Water your plants with it, but do not ingest or breathe it.

Seems someone wants to contract legionnaires disease. Look it up. All those people who got it and died were victims of the AC units moisture build up becoming contaminated.
Last I checked. Distilled water didn't cost me a first born male child. DW at the store is cheap and safe. And if one thinks it is unsafe from the store, Just nuke it in the micro before pouring it in the water tank. It will then be pouring out that needed humidity from the get go.

Legionnaires disease was spread by A/C units, but the problem came from pigeons defecating into the system.super7pilot wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:16 pmSeems someone wants to contract legionnaires disease. But what lurks in that basement that the OP was referring too. mold spores, mildew? I sure wouldn't bother with pulling moisture from a damp basement and dumping it into a CPAP machine to force it deep into my lungs. I have enough problems already.D.H. wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 10:12 pmLegionnaires disease was spread by A/C units, but the problem came from pigeons defecating into the system.super7pilot wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:16 pmSeems someone wants to contract legionnaires disease. Re: An overlooked source of distilled water
Some allege that the legionella bacteria came from pigeon feces, many sources have refuted it.
Legionella bacteria thrive in warm water consistent with dehumidifiers, AC units, hot tubs, ... Legionella outbreaks occur all the time, with no links to pigeons.
The premise of re-using water from a dehumidifier is dangerous and stupid, and supporting that is idiotic and negligent.
