Heated CPAP tube issues

Post by Onyer6 » Sun Feb 16, 2025 6:27 am

Rather than respond to an older thread I thought I'd start a new one. I found the answers to 'should my CPAP tuube feel warm to my hand' more intuitive than accurate.
Here's my take,
I would suggest that it depends on the air temp. In the Winter my bedroom is at 65 deg. The tube should feel mildly warm compared to the air temp surrounding your fingers.
My new one doesn't. I need to check the settings.
E.g., you don't feel 'cold' in a room at 72 deg even though your body temp is much higher.
The reason I'm revisiting this is that my new 'heated' tube feels the same as room temp, 65 deg. I will have to check my settings. I've never changed them on this newer rig.

The outside of the tube gets very slightly warm. Remember...your body temperature is 98. Anything you touch that is lower than 98 may feel cool. The inside of the tube heats to warm the air running through it. You can see the coils heating.

If I hold the heated tubing in my hand prior to turning on the machine, and then again after about 5 mins, I can feel the difference. Naturally, the greater the temp differential between the hose and the room air the easier it is to tell the difference. If after about 15 mins, if I then do the same check on my hose, it doesn't feel warm any longer. The heat is cycled on and off I believe.

If you are really wanting to quantify the difference, get yourself an inexpensive non-contact instant read thermometer. Amazon has em for under $20. You need one of these things anyways, they're fun to use. Check the inside temp of your fridge and freezer, that's fun right there. lol

98 is not the temp. of your fingers.
