Does it sound like I have sleep apnea? Apple Watch…

Post by iluvsleep9x » Fri Mar 14, 2025 9:23 pm

I just updated to a new Apple Watch that tracks sleep disturbances. I haven’t worn it to bed every night but 4 times my respiratory disturbances have been elevated.
I don’t really know what this means but Apple says they will send me a sleep apnea notification after 10 elevated events. Haven’t gotten one yet.

I started taking lexapro and birth control a couple years ago so I attributed my tiredness to those things….
I really don’t want sleep apnea and I’m hesitant to even get a cpap if I really do have sleep apnea…
Is there any chance this Apple Watch is wrong?
Can’t upload the screenshots for some reason so I’ve been listing out the elevated and not elevated stats

March 2- Not Elevated
March 3 not elevated
March 4 not elevated
March 5 not elevated
March 7 not elevated
March 8 elevated
March 9 not elevated

March 12 elevated
March 13 elevated
March 14 Elevated.

I assume you are sleeping with someone since you are taking birth control. Ask him if you snore. Ask if the snoring sometimes stops for several second and then you suddenly gasp for air. My father used to shake the whole house, then pause and then gasp loudly. My wife says I did this before CPAP, but not with CPAP.

Impossible to know with any level of certainty the answer to your question with just this little bit of data available.
Lots of things can and will disturb our sleep that are totally unrelated to our breathing.

You are going to need a real sleep study to find out if you have sleep apnea or not for sure.

My ex a long time ago recorded me snoring but it wasn’t super loud. Idk if I snore all the time

I'm curious, do you think ANY of us WANTED sleep apnea or to have to use CPAP?

The ONLY way to know what's going on is a sleep test. They aren't so terrible these days. You can do a home sleep test in your own bed with a device that attaches to your finger.

All kinds of people have sleep apnea, young people, old people, skinny people, fat people, people with poor health, people who are in great physical condition. Don't buy in to any myths that you can't have sleep apnea because you're _______ (fill in the blank). You don't have to snore to have sleep apnea. You don't have to be fat.

I wouldn't worry about a CPAP until after a test. If the test shows you have apnea that needs treatment, then we can help you figure it out. It can be challenging at first, but most of us get to a point where we put on our device just like our pj's and simply go to sleep. It becomes a nothing burger. We wake up feeling refreshed and don't go through our day so tired we might fall asleep at the wheel, we might be unable to finish a tv show, book, or movie without falling asleep, or we get so dog tired that every afternoon of work is a slog.

And PS, yes, people with CPAP can date and have overnights. They are smart enough not to put the CPAP until they are ready to go to sleep. No brainer.

So I got a spo2 blue tooth monitor that tracks overnight spo2 and odi events. I took a nap, it was 2 hours.
I’m gonna use it over night also.

Here’s the results. Idk how to really read it and I guess it’s not a complete picture because it’s only 2 hours.
But I will try it tonight while sleeping and post the full one.

It looks like you had at least 1 event in a 2 hour period. You won't see much REM in a nap, so it's not really telling us much. Your overnight graph will be more useful.
