Tried the Ivory Soap Bar under Sheet for RLS

Post by lpady » Wed Apr 18, 2007 1:23 pm

For those of you following the topic where someone suggested Ivory soap bar under my sheet for RLS relief, I did go out that night and buy a bar and put it under my sheet.

Either it's working, or my RLS has not been acting up. Maybe it's like the old joke -- keeping some wierd item in your house so no elephants get in and when someone says "what elephants" you say "see -- it's working..."

I'll keep you informed of the progress (or non-progress), but I'm definitely still taking my RLS meds

Good sleeping all...

Linda

Got some Ivory for my FIL, too. Will report later. 2 nights so far no debilitating leg cramps.

Okay, exactly where do you put the bar of soap? Are you supposed to sleep with it under your legs, under the top sheet next to your legs, under the bottom sheet? Man, these sound like such silly questions, but I really want to try this!

I don't know if there is a "correct" placement, but I figured I'd put it by my calves which are what bother me the most. What I heard/read said to put it under the sheet (unwrapped, of course).

Heck, anything's worth a shot ...

And it doesn't have to be Ivory. My neighbor swears any bar of soap will do the trick.

In fact, she was just saying last week that she was going to try a color coordinated nylon net bag filled soap chips (left over bars of soap too small to be easy and comfortable to use whilst bathing). I'll have to ask her if she's done so and if that works.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one getting relief from nightly cramps in my legs by this rather unusual method. I've been doing this now for about 3 weeks.

Now, for those times when the cramps do happen, I've found that drinking a shot of dill pickle juice (1 - 1.5 oz) or taking a tsp of yellow mustard gets rid of the cramp almost immediately. Don't ask me why it works, but it does!

Sweet dreams, ya'll!

I'm glad it's working for you!

My parents first read about it in the newspaper (a column written by a Dr. Gott) Apparently, Dove and Dial do not work. Again, I have no idea if it's something in the soap that releases something into the air or if it is all in the minds of the people using it, but if it takes away the leg cramps - who cares!

I wish I could stop my OSA with a bar of soap!

Here is a link to a newspaper article where Dr. Gott talks about where to place the soap:

I believe both pickles and mustard contain turmeric. Would that be a possibility?

Soapy sheets

Post by kteague » Wed Apr 18, 2007 6:37 pm

Say what?!?!?!?

I must have been sleeping and missed the prior discussions! So... some are saying RLS, some are saying leg cramps - I am more than a little perplexed as to how the popular floating soap could possibly make a difference.

My issue is severe PLMD. If it works for me we'd better all hurry up and buy stock in Procter & Gamble before the word spreads.

Kathy, you better go to Costco, buy a case of every brand they have and duct tape a bar to each of your legs
