The shallow I have is nothing more than a medium. I'm not sure why they call it this. Anyway its between a small and a large. Happy breathing jim

Umm, that's not exactly true. It may feel like that to you, but it is a different design than the medium (you can get a small or large shallow as well). It means it's cut so it (theoretically!) fits more closely around the nose, especially the bridge, and may therefore also be a little less 'poufy' over the rest of your nose... more shallow, like a bowl vs a cup.

From my recollection the shallow mask is just that. If you are Roman (as in Roman nose) or from some part of the world where facial features are prominent in the horizontal, then a shallow is not the best choice

But some of our Asian friends would find a shallow mask a better fit.

Just a matter of what fits neatly and snugly.

According to a message board poster who used to speak with a nurse who worked a support phone for resmed, the nurse said she felt the "Shallow" fits more people better than the "Standard" does.

Unless a person has a very beaked nose...a very high bridge, or "Roman" nose, as dsm said... I agree that the Shallow is probably a better choice. Shallow describes more a "shape" of the cushion rather than a size per se.

The Shallow is cut out a tad wider and blunter across the bridge of the nose. It's also cut out a little wider at the nostrils. I like the Shallow better because I don't like to feel even the lightest touch of a mask long the sides of my nose. The Shallow feels a little roomier. It also is a tad shorter from bridge of nose to under the nostrils than the Standard is.

There's not a lot of difference between the shape of Shallow and Standard. I can wear either, but the Shallow suits me better in any masks that offer it.
