[quote="nate124"]Rooster,

If you think the deeper sleep is because I'm getting more air into the lungs from breathing with both nose and mouth, do you think a standard Full Face mask like the UMFF, HC431 or for that matter the new Quattro would have the same effect?

I read another post that said the Resmed Quattro and Liberty masks had lower CO2 flush out, I wonder if that will negatively affect the quality of sleep.

The chin flap of the Hybrid might help too. My theory is that the chin flap supports the lower jaw and reduces the extent that it gets pushed back as the lower headstraps are tightened. Thus, the airway does not narrow as much and you will have less micro-arousals.

I can't give any numbers as far as leak rate, but I can tell you that with the 431 and the UMFF I often awoke with leaks around my eyes and near the corners of my mouth. I have little or no noticeable leaks with the Hybrid and I don't have to overtighten the headgear to eliminate leaks.

I know some folks have modified their Hybrids by clipping the link between the nasal pillows or removing the chin piece, but I have not felt the need to make any changes.

I am thrilled with the Hybrid!
S-Dubya,
Do you know if your Hybrid has the new "adaptive flow" shell?

Mecocosm I think that might be the theory of the purpose of the chin flap on the Hybrid, but...

Living on the edge as I do, I removed the flap from the medium oral piece last night to see what effect it might have. For me, it was a good move.

I had switched back and forth between the large and medium, both fit, but was having more leak problems with the medium. In that regard, the large was better, but still not great.

Based on last night, using the flapless medium, I do believe I was having the same problem as Rooster described; when I would really fall asleep, and my neck would relax, my head would lower, which would push the flap against my skin, and break the seal.

For me, using the flapless medium, I had a leak rate of 19L, which is the best I've ever achieved with the Hybrid, and rivals what I've gotten with the swift.

I'm thinking I may have to change my profile, as it looks like the Hybrid will become my main mask with the Swift as a change of pace.

Rooster, thank you for all the time and info you supply to us, you've been a big help to me in trying to get therapy tolerable!

Quattro

I have been having serious problems since wearing my new Quattro.
I thought possibly I was wearing the mask too tight , but last night I loosened it and still woke up with my lips a slight blueish colour. I also wake up feeling sick like I may have to throw up. Could it be that I am breathing my own Co2 ? The new Quattro is the only mask I have left. My wifes daughter let the animals in our bedroom and they tore up my gel mask that I got after me sleep exam. I am very worried now.

Good question. I got the Hybrid last Wednesday afternoon and we moved on Friday so I haven't had a chance to read all the documentation yet. I'll have to check that out tonight.

mattinSC, the mask itself can't make you sick unless you have an allergy to it or something. Make sure air is coming out of the exaust when your machine is on. I'm sure these masks are tested before they let them on the market.
Someone posted that information.
Is it available for the Quattro yet?
