Providing online CPAP suppliers with your prescription

Post by Cliff » Tue Jul 10, 2007 12:03 am

I just received my original prescription for CPAP from my sleep doctor today, originally it had been faxed to the local DME. I requested the actual prescription so I would have the option of purchasing a backup or replacement machine from an online provider.

I am not ready to purchase anything at this time, but should I go ahead and get it "on-file" with the on-line CPAP store, or just wait? Do these prescriptions expire?

The doctors office also sent me a copy of my sleep study, but I don't ever see the online CPAP companies request that information. I suppose I should keep it on file just in case.

Keep it to use as a 'baseline', in other words something with which to compare future results either from your own or an MD's read-out.

A Cpap prescription does not expire. Do keep a copy of your sleep study. If you ever have problems and need help, the folks here will ask what your results were in order to pinpoint your problem. Just a heads up.

Keep your prescription until you order online. Then just fax them a copy when you place your order. At least that's what I've done on two occasions.

The local DME I've been dealing with says the RX must be less than one year old. True or is just their policy?

My DME is telling me the same thing. Script is only good for 1 year. At this point getting a new one from my Doc won't be a problem. But things could change.

That year rule is local DME not online. I don't know exactly why, but I wonder if it has to do with insurance companies requiring a script within the last year to PAY benefits to the DME?

Anyone?

The one year validity on scripts shows up on lots of things. My meds say refill X times before date yy (One year in the future) even though the number of refills allowed may not reach that far. I guess that it means a script should be reconsidered at least annually. IMHO

I am newly on Medicare and even though I have been receiving CPAP supplies for 7 months, I have to get a script ANNUALLY just to get a mask. However, the DME said that if the Doc would write "good for 99 years" on the script - then he would not have to write another one in a year.

I haven't even tried to get a CPAP machine on Mediare. I had to get another script for O2 AND have an oxymeter test to prove I still needed it.

The DME said you basically start all over when you get on Medicare.

Hi,

Just my two cents, but my daughter used to work in a pharmacy, and I think it may vary from state to state, but I would believe it would be the cost accounting side on the part of the insurance co.

I think my script says 99 years on it.

I scanned mine in ... so I have a digital image of mine and emailed it to cpap.com to have on file.

President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.
