SmartCard Reader - not detected or can't connect

Post by Birdseed » Fri Aug 31, 2007 9:37 am

I will apologize up front for using the board to request help for this. I am not computer savvy like most folks, so please bear with me. I just received my Smart Card reader and I have downloaded Encore Pro 1.8.49 to my computer. I DID NOT load the disc that comes with the SmartCard Reader (Infineer - DT3500) since the drivers are already on the Encore Pro software that I received. I have unistalled/reinstalled the Encore Pro once already and I have rebooted numerous times. I can't seem to get the drivers that are on the Encore Pro software to load so that it recognizes the SmartCard reader. After the first installation of Encore Pro (and I thought the SmartCard reader) it would state "Can't connect to the device". After I unistalled then reinstalled Encore Pro, it now states "SmartCard Reader not detected." I thought the wizard downloaded the thing, and I've tried a couple USB ports (I have 3 of them on my PC), but it just will not recognize the reader, no matter which USB port I place it in. Could someone please help me? I've been at it for over 2 hours now. Thanks for any help out there.

I had the same problem.
I reinstalled and uninstalled about 6 times.
It works now.

When the SQL server first comes up on my computer as I am booting up I click the green start/continue button. Then I open Encore Pro Software.

I struggled with this for 6 months. If you have any more problems them PM me.

DId you actually run the "Setup.exe" program from the EP CD?

Do an "Explore" of the CD and it's in a folder called "Smart Card Readers" (something like that). It doesn't automatically install during the Encore Pro install.

Do not have the smart card plugged in when you run that program. Then re-boot and THEN plug in your card reader and hopefully it'll see the device and start installing it. If it says that it's not certified with Windows (or something to that effect), go ahead and click through it.

Make sure you don't use any USB hubs and that it's plugged into a USB port that's connected to the motherboard.

And in the Encore Program, it defaults to serial port, reset to usb. Jim

I never have a single problem with it now. No more frustration, just easy downloads.

I realize this is SERIOUS thread necrophilia - but Jim, you just saved me hours of uninstalling/reinstalling and who knows what other fixes I would have tried - I'm installing a new version of EP, and I kept getting this error message. It's funny how such a short off-hand reminder post can be so useful. Thanks!
