CPAP hose cover pattern or design idea's

Post by Rich03079 » Thu Oct 11, 2007 7:50 pm

My wife sews, so was curious if anyone has an CPAP hose cover sewing pattern, so we can sew together something easy & cheaper $$$
6ft of fabric at Walmart is about $6 a yard maybe less on clearance...?

So does someone have a sewing pattern on hose....?

No pattern needed ... just cut a rectangular piece about 3.5 inches in width by the length of your CPAP hose ... fold over length-wise and sew a tube that will end up being 1.5 inches when folded flat (leaves about 0.25 inch seam) ... then turn it inside out.

rubber band, velcro strap, elastic hair tie, ... whatever works.

Take a strip of velcro (the kind that sticks to itself when you wrap it around itself) about 1/2 inch wide by 6 inches long. Sew a short piece of it into your seam. When you turn the cover inside out, the remaining length becomes a self-stick wrap-around band. Sew a strip at both ends of the hose cover about 1 1/2 inches from the end of the cover. You want the strips of velcro to be placed so they can be wrapped tight around the ends of the hose right before they join the rubber cuff.

I made one out of an old fleece throw and used sticky sided velcro to fasten it in several places along the tubing. (Too lazy to set up my sewing machine.)

By the way, it didn't do anything for rainout, but it's still on there for now.
I figured it was better than nothing, until I get my heated hose.

Hopefully you'll have better luck. You could probably just rubberband it at the ends.

I also looked at some rubber pipe insulation at Home Depot today, but not quite flexible enough to be comfortable. Also a tad to small to seal around the tubing all the way.

O.K. now you all know how cheap I am. Thrifty, yeah, thrifty.

closings... If you have a computer and have tried to combine some of the many cords, you will know about the packages available of Velcro strips where you pass one end through an opening and make it as tight as you wish.

I have also used long twisty ties.

I use my cover to 'dress up' my unit

I made one just last night. In Tennessee it went from the 80's to the 30's
at night, almost overnight. I cut a strip off an old fleece blanket. and just
hand stitched it up one side. It wasn't long enough so I used 2 pieces, and now it goes from the back of the machine, all the way up to the exhaust
port on my mask. It helps cut down the force of the air blowing out on
exhaling.
I am not very handy with a needle, so its not very pretty, but is much more
comfortable. I think the cold plastic hose in the bed is why I dreamed about a snake trying to eat my face.

Reminds me of my 1st nite. I'm sleeping soundly, I wake up in the middle of the nite with a huge hose attached to my head. I SCREAMED!!! I thought the aliens had me and were doing tests. lol I laid there quietly for about 1/2 hr, when I realized no one was watching me.

WAAHHHH!!! I'm so tired.

I just bought one yard of a fleece I particularly liked the color/pattern of, and then cut a strip about twice the width of the hose. I had to piece another strip onto it, to cover the full length, plus about 6 inches more, to give it some "bunch".

I cut it that wide to trap more warm air inside and also to make getting it off the hose quick and easy.

Velcro one wrap at the ends is great!!! I sewed velcro onto the ends of mine, but I won't do that again. So not worth it. Just get the Velcro One Wrap, either the cable tie type, or by the yard.

Cheers,
Babs

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've also wanted my mom to sew me a hose cover. I've put off trying to find the fleece fabric because our Wally World stopped having a fabric department and I dreaded going to a bigger town to find the fabric. I didn't even cinsider using a fleece throw. And to think of the fact that we have tons of them lying around the house. Sounds like a good weekend project! Where I live we also just went through a 20 to 30 degree drop in temp in the matter of only a couple days. It's time I "warmed up" my equipment.
