Sleeping more and still tired -- rebound effect??

Post by Insomniyak » Thu Jul 17, 2008 8:17 am

I've noticed that 3.5 weeks in I've been starting to sleep more. Last night was the first night that I actually slept a full 8 hrs straight through. I do feel tired when I wake up, like it takes longer to wake up, probably because I am in a deeper sleep, but once I am awake, I am feeling much more energy. Just curious if being tired after 8 hrs is part of a rebound effect and if that goes away once I get caught up on the 6 years of sleep I've missed.

Only other thing is chasing a leak that only happens on my left side.

Hi Insomniyak,

Everybody responds differently when they start, but your experience is very similar to mine last year. I couldn't sleep enough - 8+ hours during the week, and 11-12 hours on the weekends. I would also be groggy in the mornings, and yawn during the day (even more often than I would before CPAP!). That's one of the reasons I bought a data capable machine out-of-pocket, to make sure that my therapy was on track. Turned out that I was just catching up.

Good luck to you,
Cathy

Enjoy your sleep. For far too long we were sleep/oxygen deprived and once we "make peace" with our equipment, the real pleasure of good sleep comes......and then our bodies can start the healing process.

Good to know. It is not that same fatigue and wanna crash tired that I felt before, if that makes sense. I do have more energy thoughout the day. Other than a leak when I turn on one side, my therapy is going well. I don't really have apnea on my side but I do wanna adjust for this leak.

Wulfman, I can't find the post now, but I LIKED and AGREED with a comment you made yesterday about the Native American Indians have their land taken from them and maybe them foreclosing on the land and running the economy, something along those lines.

That pretty much sums it up. Here's the post:

Over the last 30 - 40 years, I've developed an appreciation for what they had and how they lived......and sympathy for how it was stolen from them and how they were (and still are) treated by people who called themselves "religious" (Christians).

I was wondering if you can also oversleep in the first weeks of therapy? Do our bodies kick in correctly to wake up when we are rested or do we need to adjust?

I overslept the other morning, snoozing the alarm and finally turning it down mostly in my sleep, never even removed the mask even, LOL.

Your body will wake itself up when you have slept enough, that's what happens with me anyways.
