Blue painter's tape works great
Thanks Gerald for pointing me in the direction of the blue painter's tape. I'm not sure I'm using exactly what you are. Its sort of like masking tape, but blue. I only need the 1" wide tape. But compared to regular paper tape, its so much gentler. I can use it every night without any skin problems. Thanks Gerald!

I hope it doesn't have anything toxic in it!
Gerald uses the 2", but I've found that the 1" is fine. I had thought that paper tape was the gentlest on skin, but this is so much better. Just take it off slowly.
I turn over a little on each end, in case I need to take it off quickly for a sneeze or cough. It just doesn't budge all night long, and my skin has never gotten irritated by it. I'm impressed!

Country........
Just remember that you need to remove the tape by pulling parallel to your face.....not at ninety degrees to your face.
If you pull straight away from your skin, it pulls a little bit. Not terribly uncomfortable, but a little unpleasant.
Removing the tape by pulling parallel is very comfortable....when I remove my tape in this manner, it almost becomes a game to see how comfortable I can make it.
Sharon......Check your blue tape to be sure it is the "delicate release" version. The 3M tape I'm using is the "second to most delicate" version. Evidently, 3M makes one more version that is more gentle than the one I'm using........but, I've never seen it at Lowe's.

I must have tried the wrong blue painters tape because it won't stick to my face! What kind of blue painters tape is the one to use?

The tape I'm using is made by 3M......and it's their #2080 "Scotch Blue for Delicate Surfaces".
If your skin is naturally oily, the #2080 version might not want to adhere. Pick something with a little stronger adhesive and it ought to work.
Gerald
Yeah, and watch it pull my lips off in the morning!!

Sharon.......
I just did a quick Google search on the two numbers.....and I suspect that #2090 probably has a stronger adhesive than the #2080.
3M calls the #2090 tape "Multi-Surfaces".....and they refer to the #2080 as "Delicate Release".
The stuff is so inexpensive that experimenting with both is practical.

That is the tape I used, the Delicate Release tape. Guess it was too delicate for my oily face. I'll get the #2090 and see how that works!~Gerald wrote:Sharon.......

Jeff......
I failed to mention that I'm using some of Rested Gal's "famous panty hose tights" to push down on top of the tape. This is done to prevent "blow outs" caused by the delicate adhesive turning loose because of pressure.
I cut one leg......made a loop secured with hot glue....just long enough to stretch with gentle pressure....over my taped mouth and behind my neck.
In addition, I secured another piece of leg just in front of one ear......so that it goes up over my head to the other side...where it's fastened with hot glue. This "over the top" piece is to help the mouth tape loop to stay in position.
This rig works perfectly for me....the tape is easy to pull off.....and the panty hose tights add downward pressure on the tape to help the adhesive stay attached. It's a good balance of adhesive and pressure.

Actually, I'm using the 2090, "multi surface" tape. I guess I was thinking there was just one type. This one, at least for me, goes on and stays put all night, and is fairly easy to remove. I just remove it slowly.
I'm thinking the "quick release", might be almost like plastic with no adhesive?
What's weird is, I was playing around with it the other night, and I actually think I can blow air through it! (not around it, but through it) ....of course the air goes out of it very slowly.
I seem to just need a gentle reminder to keep my mouth closed, so I'm not too worried about the little air loss.
Don't lick your lips right before applying it though, or it might not stick as well.
I guess we all have different skin/lips/moisture/oil, so we just have to try different things. I consider my lips fairly sensitive and with the old paper tape, I could only wear it 2 days at a time, at most. I haven't had any problems with the 2090 blue tape.
Gerald, I'm thinking the quick release might not work without the panty hose over it, right?

You're probably right about the #2080 "Delicate" blowing off without the panty hose tights. Sometimes, I have a leaks....but, since I also use lanolin, I've blamed them on the excess oil.
Removal comfort is important for me......so, the #2080 works better.
I haven't tried the $2090 "Multi Surface" yet, but I will.
