Your stomach problems might diminish after a while. I, too, had unexplainable stomach problems after about 3 months of using my CPAP. I had very soft, frequent bowel movements: a problem very foreign to my system. I read an article that said that CPAPs can help your body heal itself in areas you wouldn't expect it to. My theory is, that since I was finally getting the rest I had needed for so long, my colon could relax and heal itself of the constant constipation. I also read that a change in your breathing habits can cause a sort of purging of impurities in your system. With this information, I waited it out, and the situation finally "worked itself out." I don't know if this is common or not, but I would like to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Rickh,

Make sure you are not sleeping in an elevated position. Try to keep your head level with your torso. This may help if you are swallowing air casing the stomach pain. If the problem persits consult with your MD at once.

I also had the severe gas pains after my first week of CPAP. It was miserable! After letting my Dr. know about it , he set me up for a one month trial on APAP. The results were great! Turns out the data showed my pressure needs during the night stayed mostly in the low range of 5-7. But at other times, the pressure needed was 10-11. The APAP was able to sense and repond accordingly without keeping me pumped up at one constant level like the CPAP had been doing when set at 8. I have been on APAP now for 7 months and am doing great! I look forward each night to the sleep-all-night-long rest that I get!
Keep trying and you will find what works best for you! The end results are sooooo worth it!

bloating

I use to get aerophagia really bad from my machine. Switching to an apap helped me so much. Now I only get all that air when I need it, so less air swallowed = less pain. I also found that my post nasal drip history causes me to swallow more at night, so I try to remember to use my nasal steroid too. (FLONASE, rhinocort, etc )
