blood clot in eye
blood clot in eye
Has anyone experienced waking up with a blood clot in one eye? I have to suspect the cpap, although I didn't notice any leaking around the eyes last night.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: blood clot in eye
it is called subconjunctival hemorrhage,
can be many causes, but I haven't had one in some time but I had several prior.

someday science will catch up to what I'm saying...
Re: blood clot in eye
Yes, it's not a clot (or you'd go blind), but just a little blood vessel breakage and it can take a few days or so to clear up. They're usually not harmful at all, though if you get a lot of them, I'd look into blood pressure problems.

Why are you calling it a clot?shamballa9944@xxx.com wrote:Has anyone experienced waking up with a blood clot in one eye? I have to suspect the cpap, although I didn't notice any leaking around the eyes last night.

This happens to me now and then, but only if I take a full adult dose of aspirin and then engage in some strenuous physical activity. Harmless but obnoxious, and I doubt CPAP has anything to do with it.

Re: blood clot in eye
I recently underwent testing for sleep apnea. Each time I used the Bipap equipment, I ended up with a "bump" in my mouth. Each one had a blood clot at the base of it. I didn't realize, until later, that, I also had numerous blood clots on the inside of my lower lip. I asked my cardiologist office if anyone there had ever heard of Bipap equipment causing blood clots. They had heard of it and said that the pressure was too high in the machine. I postponed using my equipment until the blood clots cleared and my doctor has since lowered the pressure. This time it was too low - felt like I was suffocating. So, I'm not doing very well trying to resolve this problem. Please let me know if you find a good printed source which discusses this problem. Thanks.

Re: blood clot in eye
I recently started using CPAP and I woke up with a very bad subconjunctival hemorrhage about a month into treatment. I have no recollection of sneezing, rubbing my eyes vigorously, ore hurting my eye in anyway and I certainly didn't vomit. I've seen several others ask online if CPAP could cause the condition and the response is always "no". I wonder if anyone has actually studied this though - it seems odd that it couldn't as the condition can be caused by changes in air pressure, which CPAP does. With no other feasible explanation I'm scared to return to my CPAP therapy. Does anyone know of a scientific study on CPAP and subconjunctival hemorrhage?
Re: blood clot in eye
Is it possible that when you slept an edge of the mask pressed into your eye? Or that a leak high up on the mask blew in?
There are no studies that I'm aware of re your particular problem, but if it persists, see an ophthalmologist. Cpap is just a machine that blows air into your throat and any eye problems would be incidental at best.

I did call my doctor to ask and he told me that it couldn't cause it, but he didn't have any empirical evidence of this. Regarding the post about a leak blowing into my eye, it is possible but I use a nasal pillow, which seems to have this under control.

I'm not a doctor and have no personal experience with this, but have a friend with a spot he started seeing. He is now being treated by his eye doctor. I suggest you see an ophthalmologist to find out what it is and if you need treatment.

A burst blood vessel in the eye is harmless (but not pretty).
I sometimes get one when doing heavy bench presses. It starts to show up an hour or so after I leave the gym.
I got them before I used CPAP and I get them since I started using CPAP.

Re: blood clot in eye
A red spot on the eye (broken blood vessel) is really nothing. I have had them for years, but today I have had numerous floaters and flashes of light in my eye. I went to an opthamologist and now found out I have a hemorrhage in my eye. They have just upped the pressure on my CPAP (which I just got before Christmas). I am wondering if the pressure on the CPAP would affect my eyes. I have a full face mask and have no leaks around the eyes. I have noticed that I have been getting bags under my eyes though. I love the CPAP and can sleep at least 8 hours or more a night!! My sleep is so much better but at the cost of my eyesight??? I will call my primary care doctor tomorrow to let them know of my latest problems......
