Nasal masks

Post by Mary Lee » Fri Dec 05, 2008 1:16 pm

These nasal masks are terrible. There is too much air going directly thru your nose. I have used two different nasal masks and found both to be undesireable. Made my nose and throat raw - could not live
with the discomfort! Just for your info!

Mary:

Sorry you are having discomfort and difficulty....

However, you can only speak for your own nose...... I have only used nasal mask and do just fine...even up to pressures of 13 if my APAP needs to increase the pressure that high to break an apnea.

Nose breathing is better for us humans when we can manage to do so, and that is also true for breathing with CPAP.

I hope you find a mask -- whatever style -- which provides you a chance for comfortable, effective therapy....

J

Are you using humidification (with or without heat) ? That can really help, because the pressurized air can really dry out the mucous membranes in your nose and throat.

What pressure are you at? Higher pressures may be more uncomfortable and/or more drying.

All masks are not created equal. You have not joined, or logged-in and filled in your profile in text, so we can only guess you have a mask that puts air up your nose. Some masks cover the nose not try to blow it off, my type doesn't invade my nose it covers it. Also if you use a FF mask you don't have to deal with mouth leaking, just another option. Jim

What are you doing to prevent air escaping out of your mouth? THAT will make a throat raw!
