Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
I think it will be a resource conflict. Works fine on my XPSP3 with the wireless disabled.

Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
I had the same issues with the ACR38U-PNC smart card reader install freezing my system up entirely. I tried disabling wireless, uninstalling antivirus, removing SP3 etc. etc. all to no avail. In a last attempt I did the following:
1) Uninstall the program via Add/Remove Programs
2) Delete the file "usbr38.dll" from Windows/System32 folder
3) Delete the entire "ResMed" folder from the Programs folder (it leaves remnants after uninstalling the program)
4) Reboot
5) Disable Antivirus and reinstall ResScan complete install, but only install the ResMed USB Driver, not the Smart Card driver
6) Reboot
7) Disable Antivirus and under Start/Programs/ResMed/ResScan/Drivers run the Data Card Reader driver BUT DON'T PLUG THE READER IN
Reboot in Safe Mode
9) Plug in device
10) After successful install, reboot into standard mode with the device still plugged in.
I found I could then unplug and plug the unit back in at will without freezing the system.
For full disclosure, I'm still reverted to XP SP2, and our AV is Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. I'm not sure if all those reboots are necessary, but that's the process I just ran and things seem to be working.

Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
Further work found that if I plugged the card reader into any USB port other than the one it was plugged into when I installed it in Safe Mode, then the computer froze again. If I boot with the device plugged into the machine, then it works. So it's a driver clash for sure, but once it's installed (i.e. boot machine in safe mode, plug in device, reboot after installation), I can plug and play to that port to my heart's content.

Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
Today I received ResMed products:
ACR38 ResScan Data Card Reader
ResScan Data Card
ResScan 3.07 Software
During software installation there was the option for Data Card Reader Drivers to be installed from the CD.
Program installed flawlessly and recognized the card reader on the first initialization, plugged into the USB port on front of the case.
Also of note were the minimum PC specs to properly run the program, including a 2.4 GHz Pentium CPU and 1.0 GB Ram.
I have XP Pro SP3 and could not duplicate your issue on first install.
PC Specs are:
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard(socket 939)//AMD 4800X2 CPU//2 GB DDR Ram//Lian-Li PC V1000+ Case
From the ReadMe folder of ResMed/Driver/DataCard/ACS-Driver Installer:
4. Limitations
----------------
1) The installer cannot be called by another .exe (calling program). If you really need to do so, the .exe (calling program) must be in the same directory with setup.exe.
2) After each uninstallation, must reboot before another installation.
3) Incompatible with Proprietary driver.
4) Does not support PnP installation in Win98 and WinME.
5) Supports Windows NT, 98, ME, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista-32 (32-bit platforms), and XP-64, Vista-64, Win2K3-64 (64-bit platforms)
5. Support
----------------
In case of problem, please contact ACS(card reader)through:

email: info@acs.com.hk

I am most certain the manufacturer will sort out the technical issue, check the link!

Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
I took it one step further and contacted Microsoft Win XP Tech support. The young man was very helpful and took control of my computer to uninstall SP3. After this I connected my ACR38C-SPC-R reader. No change. We ran a USB scan PCSC diagnostic utility software and another called ACS Quickview diagnostic software supplied by the reader manufacturer. Both diagnostics recognized the presence of the reader and noted the insertion of the smart card. The problem seems to occur when the diagnostic software attempts a reset. The reader does not accept the reset. I plan to try a new smart card to eliminate it as the possible culprit.

Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
I am also having problems installing the Resmed branded card reader (acr38) under XP MCE SP3. Saw the device (but broken) in Device Manager once... but it freezes machine and it is not recognized in Device Manager now or by the ACR QuickView utility. Interesting the the .dll and .sys files stay in a folder called C:\WINDOWS\system\DRVSTORE\a38usb_996DAB90EB49CBBF644BA35BD3D51EC038DECA01 and not in the C:\WINDOWS\system\ and C:\WINDOWS\system\drivers folders, respectively. Don't really know what any of it means.
Rescan 3.7 and Autoset II (but haven't gotten that far)

Re: Smart Card Reader ACR38 drivers for Windows XP PRO SP3
I also have been unable to solve the data card reader freezing my PC. I have Windows XP.
Has anyone tried the Res scan usb direct adapter as an alternative? I wonder if it would also freeze my PC, or would it eliminate the problem?
