Chest pain and headache

Post by library teacher » Fri Jan 09, 2009 9:44 am

It's me again. Last night I woke up with chest pain and a headache I think was from the CPAP. I had had trouble falling asleep with the machine. I had an anxiety attach and had to pull the mask away from my face a minute or two. I then relaxed and settled down and went to sleep. Then about 2:30 I woke up with an awful hurting in the middle of my chest and my head was splitting. ( I rarely ever have headaches.) I took the mask off, turned off the machine, turned over and went to sleep. My chest and head are not hurting, but do ache a little now. Could the machine have caused this?

What's your pressure? If it's relatively "high", it could be your muscles are getting an extra workout. On the other hand, if you're leaking air out your mouth, that could account for (at least) the headache. When I see a nasal mask in someone's profile, I tend to suspect mouth-leaking and mouth-breathing as potential causes of some of their problems.

Sleeping without the equipment isn't a good idea, either. But, I know how it is when starting out and we need to do whatever it takes to build up compliance.

My pressure is 10. Yes, I probably do leak some at night through my mouth.

I think it could definitely be the CPAP. When I first started I was set at a 9 and even with CFLEX for the first few weeks I had soreness in the chest and headaches. After a while that went away and I think my body just got use to it. Now with my auto I am actually at an 11 most of the time but don't have that problem anymore.

I had a number of episodes of chest pains and headaches this past fall. My problem was that I was destating even on my bipap and having a lack of oxygen. It wasn't my heart, but my lungs that were in pain. It might be the cpap therapy isn't doing what it is supposed to do. I'd call the sleep doc for an opinion. Take care, Lovey
