Decorative cover for Cpap machine..any ideas?

Post by CareS » Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:29 am

The cpap machine on my night table makes my bedroom look like the "sick room" so I am thinking of making an interesting cover for it, similar to those quaint, old fashioned covers they put over toasters or tea pots. The shape of my machine resembles a lady bug, but perhaps a fleece elephant head would be good and I could use the hose as part of the trunk. Also this would insulate the hose. I'd welcome some creative ideas from my cpap friends out there. Also, how could you disguise the mask as part of the room decor. I know, you are thinking..she has been watching too many decorating shows on TV. and losing it. Is anyone going to want to reply to this post..? CareS

What a fun post! I had some pretty patchwork quilt pillow shams from the thrift store that were sitting unused in my closet. My remstar looks much nicer w/it on. I have decided to unplug my machine every morning before I put the cover on it for the day though, because it tends to get warm while plugged in. I love your lady bug idea!

I haven't done anything w/the hose although I've considered getting out my old knitting needles if I still have them from years ago and knitting a cover. Someone told me to use tube socks.....Hmmmm...6 foot tube socks....must have been a basketball player. Terry

Have you tried this?

I think the CPAP looks perfectly fine "as is" on my night stand. However, my wife thinks it looks horrid in the bedroom during the day. So we compromised. Every morning, I unplug the CPAP and store it neatly under the sink in my bathroom. It takes about 3 minutes to do so and another 3 minutes to set it back up at night.

That 6 minutes per day keeps my wife off my back (at least regarding the CPAP ). It is a small price to pay.

I bought a sliding shelf and installed it (4 screws) inside my night table. I drilled a small hole in the back of the night table and run the electric cord through it. At night I open the night table doors and slide out the CPAP. In the morning I slide it back in and there is no evidence of a CPAPer in the room. The shelf also gives me room to store my tape, Ayr Gel, and other assorted things we need.

I hope under your sink is cleaner than mine..... All the leaks and spills and under there. .... Even the roaches stay away.

I could handle under the bed.

Disguising the Cpap

Post by CareS » Wed Jul 20, 2005 9:04 pm

I like the sliding shelf idea, putting the machine, hose, mask etc on a sliding shelf under the table top. Then you could put a nice cover over the table and there would be no evidence of the cpap machine. Also the Teapot Cozy or shall I say Cpap Cozy would work if the hose and mask were detached from the machine and hidden in a drawer. I guess I am not the only one according to these posts who doesn't like the Cpap on display. Thanks for your helpful replies..CareS

Haven't tried covering it. It's just a tool to me, sort of like my glasses. My husband did buy me a little, stuffed elephant, however, complete with uplifted trunk to sit beside the CPAP. Their "hoses" are similar and it makes me smile.

I later got tired of the starkness of it, and added a multi-colored dragon decal. The dragon has a long beautiful neck (again, like the hose).

Even though I barely remember what it's like to wake rested, I am doing much better with this than without, so have learned to appreciate the machine (if not love it).

Guess I need to name it now to make it my own... what do you think? Anyone out there give their CPAP a clever name?

Decorative cover for the Cpap

Post by CareS » Fri Jul 22, 2005 12:37 pm

A dragon is an interesting idea only I would use the hose as it's tail. This is my pet name for my Cpap machine "

Dear Many Ponies, The Dragon is an interesting idea. I personally would use the hose for the tail. We should have a contest for pet names for the Cpap. I think there might be a few swear words out there for it. I always call it the damn contraption. "I gotta hook up to the damn contraption." Thanks for your reply to my post..CareS

Hello! I have a good friend of mine who recently started using a CPAP machine. She travels a lot and asked me to sew her a decorative cover. After we search online for one, we found nothing but plastic covers. I decided to start making the for people. Here is a link to my website:

I measured my cpap and bought one of those cheap decorative boxes in the novelties dept. Of TJ Max or similar and altered the box to accommodate the cord and hose and made a fold down portion on the front of box so you can remove the water tank to fill. When not in use just remove hose a d allhou see is a pretty box.

I cover mine with a layer of clean air, it hides that hard plastic case the manufacturer put on it. Can hardly see either when in use. Jim

Unless you plan to unplug your machine every day, a cover will make it a fire hazard. This machine is running all the time, although it powers down when not in therapy. If you put a cover on it, you restrict air movement causing heating up and possible damage to the circuits as well as fire.

Provided your tube is not a heated one, you certainly can put a cozy on it. I bought some fleece last week - bright red with paw prints, to make my cozy. You need just over 2 yards. Then use the remainder to make a matching pillow. These can both be sewn with needle and thread if you don't have a machine. I plan to use some black elastic to attach the ends.

I would instead find a bedside nightstand that you can adapt that will hide your machine (lower is better anyway to prevent rainout, I'm told). If you Google cpap nightstand, you can get a lot of ways to adapt what you already have or help you find something you like. The only problem I had with a drawer is that if you have water in the humidifier, you could mess up your machine.

I want something to cover the lights on top of mine! It drives me crazy for the 5 minutes it takes me to fall asleep.
