Its all a blank to me

Post by J Neutron » Thu Jan 22, 2009 3:56 pm

Based on info here, I made the leap at getting a card reader and software for the smart card that lives in my Respironics M Pro CPAP machine.

Strangely enough, it is all blank - there is nothing on the card, not even my ID.

Ordinarily, in the troubleshooting process, I would suspect the reader or software since neither is "known good" or otherwise proven to work. In this case, though, I suspect a problem with the card itself. The last time I took my machine in for the semi-annual check, the tech was not able to read the card and relied on the LCD to get data.

I've tried using the software to refresh the card, tried to write a reminder message to the card, and even made sure that the card was inserted into the CPAP machine correctly (why don't they design it better?) but I haven't been able to see any data on the card.

Does this mean that the card is bad, or could there be an issue with the CPAP machine?

Trying to read between the lines here, but......which software are you using? Does it go through "the motions" of downloading?

Did the tech give you a different card? (did you get the machine through them?)

Need a little more info to give intelligent (?) answers.

When I took the machine in, the tech tried to get data from the card, just shurgged, put the card back into my CPAP machine, and used the LCD for data. No new card, and she didn't act like it was any big deal.

My card reader accesses the card (flashes the lights) when the software tells it to read the data.

The software is Encore Pro.

I'd have to fire it up again to get the exact message, but it was something like "No data on the card".

I go back in with my machine next week. I'm wondering the right questions to ask so that they fix it this time instead of just shrugging.

My guess is the machine is NOT recording on the card. The easiest way is to get a card with data on it to test the reader. Could try this card in another machine too. Ask the tech to either put card into another machine or just give you a new card or even a new machine??

Good Luck,

Yeah, I was wondering about the machine. I even tried to see if there was a way to configure the machine to NOT use the card, but didn't see any documented way of doing (or undoing) that.

I'm betting on a bad card. Is there any way to determine if that's the case?
