Severe drooling...how to make it stop???
Severe drooling...how to make it stop???
I NEVER used to drool before CPAP. Now I drool constantly. It wasn't too bad (though still existent on CPAP) until last night. Last night was my first night using a chin strap. I had puddles (sorry to be gross) but it was just gross. I took a shower last night but absolutely had to take another this morning because of the drooling. What could be causing this? I've read that it could be that my pressure is wrong. I honestly don't think it's that because my apneas have all but disappeared right where my pressure is at and any decrease in my pressure increases my AHI and increase in my pressure causes even more severe mouth breathing and lots of other issues. SO I believe my pressure is set just right, what else could it be? Or am I wrong and it could be my pressure??? It's starting to interrupt my sleep having to wake up so many times a night to wipe my face and neck off which just negates everything the CPAP stands for in giving me a good nights rest. Please help!
Thanks!! ~Heather

That makes two of us. I've been drooling when sleeping on my side since i was 18. Now with CPAP my drooling seems to have gone away but not always. Some nights I find that I'm still excessively drooling and so much that the water has even backed up into my hose and was expelled back into my face. Ugh!
I hope we can find some answers to this problem of drooling.

Kind of strange....but
My daughter and her friend Lisa are visiting me right now, Lisa has the same condition I have which of course is sleep apnea. I was showing her some of the forums, she saw and read this thread about drooling and she wanted to post her reply so of course I let her use my computer, never realizing that the forum was "set" to "bust" me as "Lisa LaTorre also posting as Riv"!
Edited to add: I just found out that my computer is acting up and I can't log in. This really will get confusing to some now as I'll have to post unlogged as Riv1.
So please welcome Lisa as a possible new member, hopefully some will answer the questions in this thread about drooling and sorry for any confusion re the name situation, my apologies.

Hi. Are you on any meds that could have the side effect of drooling? When I was on Prednisone the drooling was awful - day and night! After I was off it for a while the drooling stopped except for a rare night (like last night). Haven't figured out what makes the difference. Maybe someone else can shed some light on the subject.

I've done some drooling also and I've wondered what caused it. My settings seem to be ok. Perhas the prednisone has something to do with it as I am on that. The dose has been cut down and since then I haven't had any drooling.

When I roll over in bed and look at Angelina I get severe drooling, and that is before I even put my mask on.
Seriously, I do not mean to make light of your situation. I just cannot help myself from being stupid.

How to stop severe drooling?
Just remove the chocolate !!
Sorry, I blame my immature response on Jason S. and the fact that it's the Friday of a great summer week-end.

Hahahaha...okay you guys aren't helping any!!! Funny as you may be!
Re: Severe drooling...how to make it stop???
I have a solution. I have been using a full face CPAP mask for years. And for years, I have put up with saliva collecting in my mask, splashing across my face, and waking me up. I have to keep tissue by my bed to dry out my mask and clean my face.... and it usually happens a few times a night. I couldn't find any products to help - so I invented one. I'm currently looking for Beta testers who are willing to try out the product and give me their feedback. I can be reached at cpapliners at gmail
Re: Severe drooling...how to make it stop???
Geez, after reading all these I'm glad to learn I'm not the only one. Since being a kid I've always had one or two wet spots on my pillow when I sleep and remember turning my pillow over to find a dry spot. Now on an ASV with FFM I've done ok until the past couple of days when I've noticed I started drooling as well. Not very comfortable feeling the cold puddle on my cheek.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

cpapliners resurrected an old thread to promote a product.
Typical spam.
Anyone want it removed?

All I needed was one vote besides mine. In 90 days from registering date you should have the spam button show up on posts, then you can also remove them.ameriken wrote:Absolutely.
It seems to be common thing for spammers to troll the old stuff. With time you will see what I mean. Most of the time someone will spot it and it gets zapped before someone new responds to it. Then the old thread goes back into the archives and no one sees it.

Is your chin strap doing the job? do you know for sure that it is keeping your mouth closed? check out the ultimate chin strap for sleep apnea...its keeps your mouth closed while, because of its unique design, it keeps your air passages open...good luck!
