Looking for the best pillow

Post by Molly Polly » Thu Aug 13, 2009 3:39 pm

Hi There,
I'm new to CPAP and I am already happy with the results, but my challenge is finding a bed pillow that will work for me. I have a hiatus hernia and sometimes I need to raise my shoulders or elevate my upper body like a hospital bed. Most nights I'm o.k with a body pillow or that was before CPAP. Now I am looking for a comfortable pillow that will allow me to sleep on my side. In Canada the Temprepedic pillow costs around $200.00. Do you have any recommendations?
Thanks,
molly Polly

I am using the buckwheat pillow offered from the PurSleep guy. Regenisis I think is the name. It allows me to customize the placement of the hulls so I can lay on my side easily and put the mask where there is no pressure on it.
A side benefit is that it also lets me make the proper cradle for my arthritic neck. I love this pillow.

If you are thinking along the lines of a memory foam type of pillow (like the cervical pillow) my mother just got a new mattress and along with they gave her their brand of memory foam cervical pillow. I found it to be far superior to the other memory foam cervical pillow I was using. It was denser, heavier and offered much more support. It was much more comfortable. She got me one while getting hers thinking it would benefit my neck. If I wasn't using the buckwheat pillow you can bet I would be using it. Cost at their website $35 or $40. I would put it up against any fancy $200 pillow any day of the week. I have seen those types. I originally thought this pillow would be up in that price range when I saw the quality.

I can look up the link if that is the type of pillow you were thinking about.

I second Pugsy's recommendation of the Regenesis buckwheat pillow. In the past I've tried buckwheat pillows and found them too hard and too noisy. Not the case with this pillow. It also stays cool instead of getting too hot in warm weather like many other pillows I've used.

I am a total pillow freak. I have bought maybe 100 different pillows. I've read thousands of reviews. It got so bad, I had to hide the new ones from my family. They teased me unmercifully. I have returned about 50 of them, and have made up excuses for the sales people that would win an academy award.
I've finally settled on the Indulgence Pillow at Bed Bath and Beyond. (the side sleeper one)It's shapeable, so I can place it where I want it, and it holds it's shape. It's soft as a whisper, but very supportive. It lasts a long time. I actually now use two of them , one on each side, so when I roll over, there is a cool pillow waiting for me.
All that said, I haven't tried the Regeneris buckwheat pillow yet, since I've had bad experiences with those types before.I may yet give it shot.
Good luck finding your "sweet spot".

I started using the Regenesis pillow about a month ago...It took about 7-10 days of adding and subtracting hulls to get it just right for both back and side sleeping. SINCE THEN IT'S BEEN GREAT!
