I think that there is an assumption that the data from the new devices will be accessed somehow, whether it be a new version of Viewer, illicitly obtained copies of Pro, or a freeware app.

Where there's a will, there's a way.

SoCal --

I'm surprised that you didn't drive to Houston and camp outside of cpap.com's office last night to get the first one.

Wasn't me but I have been playing the the numbers to see what my out of pocket will be if I make my DME get it for me. Since I bought my existing machine off craigslist, my insurance has yet to pony up. Hmmm. maybe a trip to the DME to sweet talk him into ordering it. He normally sells Resmeds, but has some knowledge of Respironics, wonder if he even knows about this one yet. I all the time tell him something new. He says I need to work for him because I know more about his stuff then he does.. There is probably a sad bit of truth to that. THough he did say he would try to get an AWAKE meeting setup if I would talk to his patients about some of the little tricks I have learned and heard to make this machine/mask adjustment easier. He has a lot of patients that are struggling. Maybe we could work about something with that machine.... I have been plotting.

The lure of this machine has bit me. I have enough masks now to fiddle with. 3 that I am quite satisfied with.
When I go pick up my next pillow I do believe I will have a little chat about it. My insurance will pay 80% leaving me with just a bit less. Don't know if I can sweet talk the software out of him ..yet..... Won't stop me from trying. I could buy from cpap.com and have insurance reimburse me or do the normal DME hop through hoops stuff. I have been thinking about it pretty hard. I was going to get a back up machine anyway. Just depends how much the out of pocket for this little gem runs with the DME vs buying from cpap.com and turn in to insurance. According to what I read, I pay 20%, Depends on what the DME 20% to me adds up to.

I don't think I would have a problem with the doc now because they told me that in my situation with minimal events everwhere but in REM where I seem to kick ass and need much higher pressures only in REM events. APAP is suitable for my needs. I have been sorting things out for when I present my request.

Software for it will eventually turn up somewhere. They won't be able to keep it under lock and key forever.

Maybe if I offer to be the guinea pig for this new machine they will help me out. I understand things well enough to give good feed back and I would be a good candidate to test it on... See, I have all the reasons lined up...

Still dreaming but you never know.

Since I only got my machine 30 days ago... I must confess that I already called my insurance company days ago... and proposed to return it and get the new one.

In case anyone didn't notice today... our host has dropped the discounted price! So I am just about set to pull the trigger.

I was just diagnosed with OSA this week. I go back for a titration study on Monday night. What should I say to make sure I am prescribed this machine?

The wording on the physician order or script would likely need to specify this exact named machine. It is new and I doubt many DME's have it on their shelves. DME's want to go the cheapest route they can and usually the script just says CPAP and leaves the door wide open for the DME to give the cheapest machine so they can make the most money. It probably will have to be special ordered.

If you want to purchase this machine from cpap.com you can get it with a CPAP script though because of the RX policy. Otherwise if obtaining via DME you must have the RX worded explicitly for this machine and then be prepared to fight them. I had a DME refuse to order me any Respironics machine simply because they didn't want to. Flat out told me they wouldn't do it because they "had too many problems with them"..... Oh well, whatever..
they didn't get my mask business either and they are 6 blocks from my house.

socalLabRat... oops, I mean socalmonkey! ...thanks for the updates.

I'll be very, very interested in hearing your review of the machine after you get it. I'd especially like to know where the buttons are, to make the initial pressure settings adjustments and later settings changes if need be.

I didn't see any pictures of a lid lifted to reveal more buttons on the machine itself. Sure hope there are some more buttons there -- under something on top of the machine.

rested gal,

From what I've been able to learn from all the posts done on this machine and from our host's site, I'm gonna say that there are no more buttons besides the one that turns it on.

From my take on it, it will be like using an iPOD. Turn the know till you get to the part of the menu you want, push down on the knob to hit enter, etc.

That is what I'm guessing from what I've learned

David
