Limeaway for cleaning

Post by hunzee » Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:00 pm

I've been using Limeaway to clean my humifider and nasal mask for going on 2 years. Wash with dish soap after and rinse well. It doesn't harm the plastic, silicone, or comfort gel pad.

Why did you choose Limeaway?

Lime-a-way is 27% phosphoric acid. Pretty strong stuff. It is a skin, eye and respiratory irritant.

I think that vinegar is a better choice.

I have a carbon filter on my drinking water and use that water for the humidifier.

Once a month I clean it with Limeaway and it goes a whole lot faster than vinegar. JMHO.

Removing lime with vinegar is like trying to kill weeds in your lawn with that safe to use stuff from the hardware store.

I will stick to distilled water as it is inexpensive. I know I wouldn't want to breathe in the residue (even after a "thorough" cleaning with soap and water) from LimeAway. It is pretty potent stuff.

The phosphoric acid is pretty benign (It is used in Coke or Pepsi). Its the other chemicals in it I would worry about.

Try citric acid. They use it to clean humidifiers. And it is food safe.
