Fisher-Paykel Forma vs. HC432 Full Face Masks

Post by John From RI » Fri Sep 11, 2009 4:30 pm

The CPAP.com sizing guide says my HC432 size is small and that my Forma size is extra-large. Does this make sense? Does anyone have experience sizing these masks?
Thanks,
John

I can't believe those masks run that differently in size, though I'd like to. I have a 432 small that is too long for me and thus leaks at the nose bridge and sometimes at the chin. I have checked the part numbers for the 431, 432 and Forma seals, and all three masks use the same seal. The 432 and Forma use different foam cushions, though according to one review on cpap.com, the 432 foam cushion fits the Forma mask. (I'm assuming same size.) The 432 uses a different frame for each size, and the Forma uses one frame for small, another for medium/large, and yet another for extra large. The 431 uses one frame for all sizes. I'd be inclined to think the Forma and 432 sizes run similarly, but if I knew for a fact the Forma ran smaller, I'd get me a Forma small. I've called and asked about the sizing of these masks (cpap.com), but was not given any useful info, unfortunately. The CSR did say the Forma was not very highly rated, which I'd already seen.

As far as the sizing tool on cpap.com, I've had variable results. Usually it recommends masks which are too big for me, though it does say the FlexiFit 406 will fit me, and it does!

Sorry I can't be more help.

I got a different result, It states the 432 in small and the Forma in X-Large! I don't see how, something has to be messed up, like their data entry or something.

Katie,
I actually got the same results as you. X-Large for Forma and small for the 432. I called them and the guy told me it's correct, but I have my doubts.

My DME told me yesterday that she wants to try a Forma on me since the Quattro is not really working out. She had me try on a 432 in the office and said that whatever size I take in a 432 will be the same for the Forma, the Forma will not be in until this comming week, so I will get to see firsthand if the sizing is the same.

I just find it hard to believe that F&P would just trash thier previous sizing and go way out there, because If it is true and I require an X-Large than they outed themselves out of a huge market share for sizing!

Forma extra large is the best mask I've used. My respiratory therapist put in a medium. It made my life miserable. Thanks to the CPAP.com sizing guide I found my correct size.

I can only confirm that the mask sizing is definitely different between the 432 and the Forma.

The 432 large I tried was too small, while the 432 X-large was too big. I tried a Forma that was the right size, but I don't remember what size it was (probably large, but there are some omissions in my notes). [Edit: DME confirmed it was a large.]

For me, the Forma was the best of the standard FFMs, but it changed my bite more than the RespCare Hybrid.
