Soap Cleaners - masks
Just like to know if any of you use laundry detergent to clean the mask parts? I found ALL Free & Clear which has no dyes or perfumes. I tried baby shampoo but the inclosed and concentrated smell I could not handle (I love it on babies). Where does anyone get mild soap without all of the additives

I use Ivory Hand Soap. I don't know about detergents....what are the ingredients.

Re: Soap Cleaners - masks
Well, I was using Johnson's Baby Shampoo, as suggested by a person I spoke with on cpap.com and I found it didn't clean the cusion of my mask well enough and that first cusion degraded in just over thirty days. I was VERY gentle with it.
With the next cushion and mask I decided to use a mild dishwashing detergent -- one of Palmolive's 'back to nature' kinds...and it still didn't get the cushion clean enough for me.
Finally...I started using a cheap (either VO5 or Suave brand) clarifying shampoo and I'm liking the results. Also...I found the scents are very mild. The one I'm using now is VO5's clarifying and it is green tea scented -- very mild and it rinses off very well...not leaving me with much residual smell.

I use Ivory dishwashing liquid, this is what the DME told me to use when I first started, and it works great. I rinse it very well in warm water, and there is no smell. I just need drop for my nasal pillow. I wash it everyday.
Re: Soap Cleaners - masks
I've been using Johnson's baby shampoo since I started this (last May) with zero problems as far as I can tell. My DME and several people on here recommended it.
Oh, and to the OP - GEAUX TIGERS!

I like using Dr. Bronner's liquid soap - the unscented variety. Seems to clean really well - you do have to rinse thouroughly. I had been using Johnson's Baby shampoo, and I like Dr. Bronner's a lot more.
I do notice that my nasal pillows seal better after washing.

Can you explain why you like it "a lot more?" Baby shampoo seems to work for me, but maybe I'm missing out on something.sepool wrote:I like using Dr. Bronner's liquid soap - the unscented variety. I use unscented Dawn every day on my mask and it works great for me and for the poor animals caught in oils spills as well.RN Ricky wrote:Just like to know if any of you use laundry detergent to clean the mask parts? Well for me the Johnson's Baby shampoo did leave a scent, and I think my nasal pillows did not last as long as when I use Dr. Bronner's. The nasal pillows seemed to seal better after cleaning with Dr. Bronner's than with the baby shampoo as well.cajun wrote:Can you explain why you like it "a lot more?" Maybe my saying "a lot more" could be an exaggeration, but I did stop using the baby shampoo (at least for cpap). The lack of scent was important to me: I figure the scent is leaving something behind.

Re: Soap Cleaners - masks
I have used "Classic Ivory Dishwashing Liquid" to clean all my cpap equipment weekly - masks, cushions/pillows of masks (these get washed DAILY), hoses, water chamber for humidfier for 7+ years now. It was advised by my equipment Provider when I started out. I am in Canada but I think it is available in the US at least as well.
My equipment seems to last a long time and there is no odour from the "soap" at all.

Re: Soap Cleaners - masks
Since I travel quite a bit, I just use whatever soap is provided by the hotel to quickly wash my mask seal in the morning, and while at home I use a liquid soap.
I get at least a year of use out of a seal, so evidently the type of soap is not that critical.
Cheers,
Bill

Re: Soap Cleaners - masks
I've been washing my headgear (weekly) in my washing machine.
I use Woolite HE, and the handwash program.
Been using an ultrasonic cleaner to clean the other mask parts.
