22mm "Y" Adapter?

Post by falvesjr » Mon Dec 07, 2009 10:52 am

Does anyone know of a source for a "Y" adapter for xPAP tubing? I have a crazy idea I want to try, but would need to split the airstream in two.

I wondered about this a while back...I hope someone knows about this. I had this crazy idea to hook up a Swift LT and the Oracle oral mask at the same time.

How about phoning cpap.com and see if any of their mask parts might work?

1/2" PVC fittings have an OD that is similar. Probably close enough that a hose fitting would mate. The ID is much smaller, but volume of air isn't generally a factor in CPAP.

For lab-ratting, I'd suggest PVC and electrician's tape if necessary

I think that's the most romantic thing I've ever heard of. Sharing a flow generator with a loved one. CPAP only though, BiPAP might be a disaster.

LOL!

No, nothing romantic in mind... Much like mdintx, I want to try to use an Oracle and an Opus 360 at the same time! It might be a solution for my mouth breathing as neither the Liberty or the Hybrid work for me (tried them both). Lately I've been double and triple taping, but somehow, I still manage to expel air through my mouth occasionally! I'm not sure if it's passing through the micropores of three layers of tape or if it's leaking by the corners of my mouth, but air is definitely still sneaking it's way out... I ordered an Oracle yesterday and am hoping it will work for me. If it does, then I want to try the combo with the 360 (which I already own), but I'll need a "Y" for that.

Katie, I've looked through the cpap.com site and don't see anything, even in mask parts, that would work, but maybe they will know of something if I call them...

I found one place online that has something that I think will work, but I don't know if I should ask for a sample (they don't sell directly). This is what I found: http://directmed.com/main.cgi/Therapy%2 ... onnectors/. Either the RY-004 or RY-016 look like they will work. Thoughts anyone?

Actually that is along the same thinking that I was going for (yes even the masks are the same in my train of thought).

Very interesting concept. Bringing the best in two designs as a solution. Oracle could be used with other nasal masks in theory as well. You might want to patent this type of idea before ResMed or Respironics beats you to the patent office.

The NasalAire II uses a piece that looks similiar to the RY-019.

Well, I went ahead and asked for samples of the "Y" adapters I listed earlier. What's the worst that can happen? They say no, right? Hopefully, they'll send me the samples and I'll see if this works. If it does, it may be of help to more than just me! We'll see!

ScrappinMom, I know what you're saying, but the "Y" of the NasalAire looks like it uses smaller diameter tubing on the double end of the "Y". That would require even more adapters to make it work...

Would that be BiPAP, or HomoPAP?

I am glad you said that. On reading the original post, I thought you might be trying to control aerophagia.

Yes, you're correct, the "y" tubes are smaller. I should have elaborated...I didn't really mean to suggest you spend $100 for just that part I'm sure there's something much cheaper out there! I was really just trying to comment that it successfully splits the air flow using a Y connector which resembled one on that page.

Good luck getting your samples!
