OT: A Different Serenity Prayer

Post by Kiralynx » Tue Dec 08, 2009 3:51 pm

Ran across this today:

God give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the doctors who told me "IT WAS ALL IN MY HEAD!"

I think I might modify it to

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, knowledge of the differences between the first two, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the doctors who told me, "It's all in your head!"

Yah, I think it's worthwhile -- how many of US were told our tiredness and other issues were "all in our heads" ?!?

Amen. And since it was "all in your head", pay your bill with a piece of your mind!.

I have another ending to that prayer that best reflects my own experience with doctors. Mine would be:

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, knowledge of the differences between the first two, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the doctors who told me, "There is no explanation for your high blood pressure. It just IS."

I'm glad I wasn't willing to accept that and investigated on my own! Discovering and treating my sleep apnea have made a world of difference in the quality of my life. And my blood pressure is coming down too.

Doctors (and the general public) need more education regarding sleep disorders! The research results are out there on the major health consequences of untreated sleep apnea, there is well-established criteria for diagnosing, there is proven therapy, but too many people are still suffering!
