OCD and Sleep

Post by garyland » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:54 pm

I was just wondering if I am the only one here who has OCD related to sleep. For example, do you obsess about not being able to sleep? Do you obsess about every little leak in your mask or snort you may make, or body jerk you may exhibit while trying to drift off to sleep? The bad thing is, is that I obsess about not sleeping which causes anxiety and panic. The anxiety and panic causes me not to sleep. I know that eventually things work out and I will sleep, but the OCD tells me otherwise. I go thru this about once a month. It really sucks. So if anyone else out that his a similar problem I would like to hear from you as to how you cope with it.

Thanks,
Gary

Omega 3s (fish oils, walnuts, etc) are critical to proper cell-to cell communication in the brain, which is disrupted by consumption of too many veggy oils that the body substitutes for the deficient/missing omega 3 essential fatty acids; this alters the cell permeability weakening the cell membrane. As the brain heals, depression, anxiety, and other brain-behavioral problems are improved or resolve in many cases. Worht investigating, might help.

Naw, I'm the only one....having trouble falling asleep makes me anxious which in turn makes it hard to fall asleep. Must stop every leak, and that body jerk just as I'm about to fall asleep is so annoying. Then there's being anxious, so not being able to sleep...like when I'm about to go on a trip....must be why I sleep during the trip. At least the days of being behind the wheel on a trip are behind me.

The other day I jumped out of bed in a panic and got whiplash when I reached the end of my hose/hozer. Thought something tall was looming over my bed and about to fall on me (I do have a tower fan on that side of the bed). But it was just the elbow on my mask.

I tried taking fish oil....since my good cholesterol level is so low. But, it passes straight through me and results in messy anal leakage.

Obviously the wrong form for your gut; try Coromega emulsified gel packettes. I like the original orange flavor, tastes a lot like the orangcicles (?sp) of my childhood. If that doesn't work, try Neuromins which is made directly from the algae the fish eat to create omega 3s. Or just eat wild-caught Alaskan salmon or lots of walnuts. Or just try DHA supplements.

Oh stop it guys! OCD is not funny, even if only once a month and maybe he could talk to someone who's qualified to deal with it, at least get some tips on working through the problem instead of ending up with greasy PJ's!

No it's not, awful condition. Had a friend with OCD helped by fish oils, not cured, helped. Another, bipolar and OCD, also helped, not cured. OP might investigate and see if they might help. My mom's panic attacks are gone since she started supplementing with Coromega...coincidence?...maybe, who knows.

As painful as OCD is. I do not have a severe case of it, thank God! It can be very debilitating.

Hadn't thought to try taking fish oil before bed to see what happens....I've been taking them in the morning and making for awkward situations at work... Probably gonna try to get coromega the next time I'm ordering stuff.

It could also be the brand of fish oil...'cause I'm sure I didn't have trouble years ago when I had done it. Or maybe some aspect of my health has changed such that I'm having trouble now. After all I didn't have a cholesterol problem back them....

It has been suggested that I have mild OCD, by people who are not qualified to make such suggestions (including in a sleep apnea chat room.) But, its probably my geek/engineer nature that is confusing people. Though I do have set routines on how certain things have to be done...I didn't really think of it, until I got into a fight when visiting my parents because they wanted me to do one of the steps in my go to bed routine at the wrong time....or its just that it happened that its making me self conscious that I have a set routine....
