Air-O-Swiss Humidifiers and air filters

Post by Gerryk » Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:56 pm

Has anyone on here used any of the humidifiers or air filters that this company makes? I like the idea behind the portable one for travel, that would be great for people who need some moisture in the room.

I am looking at getting some room air filters and have heard a lot of talk about these lately but no one personally vouching for them.

I bought the sunpentown branded humidifier (from thinkgeek), like the Air-O-Swiss Travel, a while back....was using it to pump humidity into my room until my new bigger humidifier arrived. Couldn't tell if it was helping....but it seemed to work. I had take a bottle of water and dumped the contents....and refilling it with distilled water, otherwise I'm sure there would be white dust everywhere...

I had intended it to try and put some moisture into the air in my office cubicle...but never worked up the courage to smuggle in another unauthorized electrical appliance....plus not sure where amongst my clutter I would hide it.

Years ago I had looked at the Air-O-Swiss Air Washer humidifiers....but the last time I was shopping for a humidifier, it wasn't a brand that the store carried...so I forgot about it.

Why one for the summer and one for the winter?

Pretty pricey too.
Questions on the airwasher - how much does it really remove from the air and how often to clean it? Is it much trouble to clean?
Thanks

The winter Air-O-Swiss ( I call it that, not them) puts out A LOT more humidity (forced "fog" with ultrasonic mechanism). Up here in Prescott Arizona, a mile up, the humidity in the house runs 20% during the winter. The central heating AND just plain dry up here AND a closed up house with 15 degree weather is what does it. The summer Air-O-swiss is an air cleaner (for summer allergies) AND a humidifier but doesn't put near as much humidity into the room ( you can read about how it works on that upper link). During the summer the house is more open and the humidity will run from 40% to as much as 80% ( the humidity will drop at night as we use the AC) during the monsoon season so I don't need the bigger unit. Both units are absolutely silent. The winter humidifier can get the bedroom up to 65% humidity!
Both units are not "steam", it's cold moisture coming out. SUPER easy to clean. I clean the "winter" one about every third to fourth week. The "summer" one about every 4th week. It's amazing how much dirt and dust the "summer" one removes from the air! VERY clever those Swiss ( We lived in Switzerland for a year back in 1994.)
