I've read some anecdotal reports of hair loss that starts to grow again after starting CPAP. Anyone here have that experience?
It does make sense from a physiologic standpoint, since sleep apnea can alter every hormone in your body. It also causes a stress response that shunts blood away from less necessary body parts like the GI system, the reproductive organs and the skin. Lack of oxygen can be a good reason for hair loss.

Interesting. I'll have to ask my 85-year-old uncle (who's pretty much been bald forever, was diagnosed with OSA a few months ago and has been using his CPAP since) if he's noticed any hair growing. (Picturing his cue-ball with new sprouts of hair is making me )sypark wrote:I've read some anecdotal reports of hair loss that starts to grow again after starting CPAP. I hope there's some truth to it, because it's likely to motivate more people to have a sleep study.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

If anything, I'd say hair loss -- from yanking it out at those moments of frustration...
