How long to get CPAP machine?

Post by janeysmom » Thu Jan 21, 2010 10:58 am

I went for my second sleep study on Sunday 1/18/10. This time they had me use the CPAP machine. I woke up after two hours and felt really refreshed. Because I felt so much better, I want my machine now! I've called my Dr. and left a message on Monday but have not heard from the DME. How long did it take for you to get your machine? Is this a reasonable amount of time?

Thanks!

I had sleep Study on Sunday night, it took Dr two weeks to get back to me only because I called and followed up wit them! It took one more week to get machine. So I guess the answer is 3 weeks, for me.

I got my machine on August 10th 2009, the previous Saturday: the 8th I had my titration after seeing the doctor Wednesday: the 5th for my initial PSG reading which occured on the 1st. I was lucky to have the openings for my studies.

janeysmom: when was your first study?; as this can help with a time-line. Some people have to wait because of their DME and Doctor's (for various reasons). Make sure you get a machine that is data capable, they report other stuff besides just hours of use. The billing code for an APAP is the same for a CPAP and an APAP can be used in CPAP mode (my is such a one, and without me even asking.

I almost hate to post my story when someone asks this question. I went to my sleep study which turned out to be a split night study. I was sent by my primary care doctor. I left the sleep lap at 6:30 the next morning. My doctor called the lab about 10 and had the hand written notes and information faxed to his office. PCP called at 11:15 and told me to go get my machine and use it the next night. Went to a local DME and had my machine by noon. I apparently does not happen very often but it can if it is done right.

I had my first test done in December then met with the dr. 2 weeks ago. I just called the sleep lab instead of the dr. and the stuff was faxed to the DME on 1/19/10. The secretary will send her and the dr. an email saying that I am anxious to get my machine. So I am hoping that I will hear from her soon! I just want to finally get some good sleep!

UPDATE: Spoke with DME who said the home medical company should be contacting me today or tomorrow to arrange the delivery of my equipment. She said it is Philips Respironics APAP machine with humidity. But don't know anything more specific. And they are starting me at a level of 10.

Six weeks and two days to get the machine on November 12. My second sleep study using a CPAP was January 3. I'm still waiting for an appointment with a sleep doc to find out the results. It may be next week before he will even set up an appointment. This is not "a reasonable amount of time"!

What a process this is! So I talked with the home medical office this morning after getting a message from them yesterday afternoon. They had to clarify my address and insurance information. They said it goes to their respiratory therapist dept. who'e be calling me early next week to set up the appt. to come to the house. Who would have thought there were so many people to go through to get the machine. I can't wait to get the machine!
