When I got my Repironics System One machine about 3 weeks ago, the technician set the C-Flex setting to the highest level--number 3--and said it was the easiest to adapt to for new users. Does this mean that I should reduce the number as I progress in therapy? Is my therapy less effective at level 3?
Thanks!
Is It Harmful to Keep C-flex Setting on 3?
Re: Is It Harmful to Keep C-flex Setting on 3?
C-Flex is a "comfort" setting. It's not supposed to affect your therapy. I my opinion, it would also make a difference in what your prescribed pressure is. If you are going to be using a higher pressure, like over 15 cm., then the setting of "3" would be more comfortable. Between 10 and 15, I think "2" might be about right. And, below 10, "1" may be appropriate.
Take your pick. Try whichever one that feels right to you.

No you don't need to reduce it unless it's bothering you. It just lets out some of the pressure when you exhale. Mine has been on 3 for a long time.

You won't hurt anything by changing it. The appropriate setting is whatever is most comfortable for you. As Den said, it's just for comfort. Play with it...
Your tech merely meant a high flex setting will greatly reduce the pressure you have exhale against. That's why 3 is a good setting for beginners, in his/her humble opinion...
Personally I found the INCREASE at the end of exhalation to be more disturbing with a high flex setting.

Noooo - CFlex of three is fine as long as you aren't getting extra air in the stomach - (aerophagia).
I tended to use CFlex=1 for that reason but if you don't have GERD then it should be absolutely ok.
Good luck
