make your own CPAP mask cleaner?
quite frankly, i am too lazy and pressed for time to disassemble my mask and wash it in the sink EVERY MORNING - but i do experience the oils in my skin affecting the seal . i went online and i guess there are wipes specifically for CPAP masks but they cost an arm and a leg. so i'm thinking: make my own solution like the one in the wipes, put it in a spray bottle and quickly spray down the mask and wipe it off in the morning. does anyone have a 'recipe' or know where i can find one for gentle cleaner that won't break down the silicone and not irritate the skin?
much appreciated!
much appreciated!

Sleepingbeauty-not, the wipes are much bigger than what one needs even to clean a full face mask. So you could buy a container and pull out a wipe part way, cut it off, and use even just a third of a wipe. I don't know of a faster way to clean your mask than with a wipe. Some people use Clorox wipes, but personally I was not comfortable with that. Some people use baby wipes, but the kind I have encountered (and I've encountered A LOT of them) tend to have moisturizers in them which I felt left the mask a little slick. I've settled on the CPAP wipes, but am cutting them up.

I just fill my sink with hot water, give it a squirt of hand soap (unscented) and swirl the mask in the suds, then rinse. Works great and is very easy.

I would try using isopropyl alcohol mixed with water, perhaps starting with 50:50 mix of 70% rubbing alcohol. I would also try it for at least a couple of weeks on an old mask to see if it damages the silicone. I would not add any scent to the mixture.

I am like SleepingUgly, they are very large and I don't use the mask wipe once. Once I use the wipe I put it in a zip sandwich bag, keeps them wet several days until I decide to discord it.
Those that are drying up, I tie it in the middle, to the end of a 9 foot piece of dental floss (Glide) and pull thru my 8 foot hose. I know the cloth is clean, will absorb any condensation and is lint free.
Before I put on my mask at night, wash my face with a cleanser and face brush. Usually do not have anything on my mask in the morning, but wipe it off anyway.

As far as face washing goes, I take a hand towel and run it under hot water then wring it out so it is damp, sort of like the hot towel you get on an airplane. No soap. I just wipe my face and then dry with the dry part of the towel. Works great and I have very oily skin.

I use the CPAP wipes too. I cut them into 4 pieces and store the unused pieces in a baggie. The price divided by 4 is not so bad. (Hope the folks that make these don't see all our comments and start making them smaller!)

I use a 50/50 mix of water/white vinegar. I put it in a spray bottle. I use this to sanitize the hose, water tank, and mask. Then rinse with warm water. I wash the mask after I get out of the shower so that I don't have to run the water to get it warm or hot. Then I hang it with my bath towel. I don't mind the light vinegar scent either. At least I know it is clean.. DONT be lazy, and make sure you empty and air dry your water tank after each use. I didn't do that. I kept adding water to it because I got lazy. Pink bacteria formed in the bottom of the tank and made me very ill. Stinky too! I hope this helps!

Unscented alcohol free baby wipes were out of stock every time I needed more.
So I've been doing a daily wipe with these for 2 years now

Re: make your own CPAP mask cleaner?
I have a big plastic mixing bowl I never use. I leave it on a shelf in the bathroom...with some dawn unscented dish soap and squirt the tiniest bit
in the bowl, add water...swish it around....then do my morning routine.
At the end of that I rise the mask off and I have a towel permanently station nearby to leave the mask on to dry. I do it most days unless I'm running late
but having all the supplies handy to make a little tiny mask cleaning basin has made it easier. It takes less time then shaving.

you go through your dubious routine to kill some germs, then you hang the mask and hose in the most germ ridden room in the house?TechGuru wrote:I use a 50/50 mix of water/white vinegar. you know that every time you flush, a fine mist comes out of the toilet, with fecal coliform and other bacteria on it... which then settles on your mask, which you then put on your face.
of course, if it's just YOUR poo you're recycling, then you won't catch anything from it.

You lost all credibility as a "guru" when you posted that pile of garbage. You have NO idea what you're talking about.TechGuru wrote:I use a 50/50 mix of water/white vinegar. And, you resurrected a five year old thread to do it, too.
