Craig kindly sent me pictures of the cool hose hanger he made. Some may remember he originally posted about it here:
Aug 24, 2005 subject: Cheap Hose "Stand/Holder"
His picture links broke (fixed now in his original post) so I asked him to send me some pictures. Along with the new pics, he sent these clear instructions:
From Craig:
Stand1.jpg shows the cheap hose stand with blue indicating the glued joints and pink those that are not glued so that I can put it in my CPAP case when we occasionally travel.

A quick note about traveling that I haven't seen in a posting. Purchase a short, 6" or so, extension cord. Most/Many rooms now have a light and clock in the ONLY electrical outlet at the bed night stand leaving NO outlet for your CPAP.
Stand2.jpg and stand3.jpg are are provided for clarity.

Stand4.jpg merely shows one application. I actually place it behind my head so that it does not interfere with TV.

As shown it is 36" high.
The portion under the mattress is 12". I believe 8-9" would be sufficient.
If no need for traveling is seen, the vertical riser needs no joints and the whole thing can be glued.
Materials: (as shown)
About 6' of 1/2" PVC
2 1/2" straight joints (optional) -- see "edit" below
3 1/2" elbows
2 1/2" tees
If not on hand, PVC glue (actually 2 cans) and a means to cut the PVC are needed. Any hardware store selling PVC can advise you about glue and methods of cutting.
(NOTE:) What cannot be seen, but I'm sure most realize, is that there are very short pieces of straight PVC between the elbow and tee joints at the top and bottom. This is the only way it can be connected as shown.
Very cool, Craig! Thanks!!
my edit: Craig (who is no dummy! ) posted a correction below to his list of items. I've changed "3" to "2" for the straight joints.

I don't know why that dummy said there are 3 straight joints when there are only two.
I'm guessing that he was just so excited about getting a PM from Rested Gal that he just couldn't count.

Wow! This is amazing, I made this model about a year ago and its similar to this posted pic, and have had inquiries about making them for several people...in colors. I can't do without mine now! This will come apart for travel and also, I added end caps for aesthetics.

Craig & Rested Gal, thanks!
My first attempt--a tripod=light/reflector stand left over from my photography business. (when I was starting). Had a dream. Swimming with a schnorkel in Basswood Lake and saw a beaver very close swimming away. Dream? Attacked by the beaver. Whipped the mask off my face and threw it. Light stand and all. We still laugh about it. But light stand is forbidden because of the damage I might do!
Bet Craig's stand would be better accepted!
trials of apnea...

My guess,
Materials and "glue" $10 USD!

Nah, more like 2 for $10. (Mine helps a lot.)

I built mine very similarly, but employ it inserted under the mattress at the head of the bed so the hose has freedom of motion both directions from center. With it placed at the side of the bed, you'll end up with the hose laying across your face if you turn toward the stand.

Hey Linus, that looks great! Do you have a background in plumbing? lol Its fun to see what everyone is doing to help make their CPAP experience more pleasant!

Thanks. No plumbing background. I did install my water heater in 2004.
I still have my pipe cutter, so I just started to measure and cut. Interestingly enough, I used super glue to hold the copper fittings together. I would recommend Gorrila glue to JB weld. Soldering is not needed for this application. I only glued the top pieces (the part that holds the hose) and the base. The middle staff section is not glued. This allows be to break down the stand during the day.
The whole set up took me an hour to build.

What do you use to cut the PVC pipe?
I have made a couple of these and got the cuts made by the salesperson at three different places - two Home Depots and Lowes. The quality of the cuts were DRAMATICALLY different. One was so ragged, I had to file it down before I could get it inside the coupling.
I want to make one for my sister and would just rather do the cutting myself, if I had the correct tool.
BTW - I use mine all the time, use it as a mask hanger during the day, and break it down to take with me when I travel.

I used a very small hack saw and placed a hose clamp on the pipe as a guide to keep the cut straight. It did have some burrs but it wasn't too difficult to deal with.
