The UAB research revealed that mice fed a meal higher in fat after waking had normal metabolic profiles. In contrast, mice that ate a more carbohydrate-rich diet in the morning and consumed a high-fat meal at the end of the day saw increased weight gain, adiposity, glucose intolerance and other markers of the metabolic syndrome.

I'm retitling this "Eat Fat for Breakfast if You're a Mouse," since only mice took part in the study.

Eat Rat for Breakfast
If PST can retitle it, I can too.
Vijay Prakash, the welfare minister in Bihar state in eastern India, said he wanted to set up rat farms and sell the meat to upmarket hotels, street stalls and restaurants.
The project will start with stalls in rural fairs followed by "rat meat centres" in urban areas.
The 2.3 million members of the Musahar caste, one of the poorest in India, have traditionally eaten rats that they hunted in paddy fields.
Now Mr Prakash says rich people should also sample the meat, which he said was full of protein and tasted better than chicken.

If your arm is twisted the wrong way while eating Spam, you will end up with geographic tongue.

I see what's going on here. Rooster is tempting us with the culinary virtues of rat in an attempt to get us to lay off chicken.roster wrote:Now Mr Prakash says rich people should also sample the meat, which he said was full of protein and tasted better than chicken.

Eat Rat for Breakfast and Avoid Geographic Tongue
Recipes
Grilled Rats Bordeaux Style (Entrecote à la bordelaise)
Alcoholic rats inhabiting wine cellars are skinned and eviscerated, brushed with a thick sauce of olive oil and crushed shallots, and grilled over a fire of broken wine barrels.
Stewed Cane Rat (Adopted by South Americans from a West African Recipe)
Skin and eviscerate the rat and split it lengthwise. Fry until brown in a mixture of butter and peanut oil. Cover with water, add tomatoes or tomato purée, hot red peppers, and salt. Simmer the rat until tender and serve with rice.
Stuffed Dormice / Ancient Rome
Prepare a stuffing of dormouse meat or pork, pepper, pine nuts, broth, asafoetida, and some garum (substitute anchovy paste.) Stuff the mice and sew them up. Bake them in an oven on a tile.
Roasted Field Mice (Raton de campo asado) / Mexico
Skin and eviscerate field mice. Skewer them and roast over an open fire or coals. These are great as hors d'oeuvres with margaritas or "salty dogs."
Mice in Cream (Souris à la crème)
Skin, gut and wash some fat mice without removing their heads. Cover them in a pot with ethyl alcohol and marinate 2 hours. Cut a piece of salt pork or sowbelly into small dice and cook it slowly to extract the fat. Drain the mice, dredge them thoroughly in a mixture of flour, pepper, and salt, and fry slowly in the rendered fat for about 5 minutes. Add a cup of alcohol and 6 to 8 cloves, cover and simmer for 15 minutes. Prepare a cream sauce, transfer the sautéed mice to it, and warm them in it for about 10 minutes before serving.

Re: Eat Fat for Breakfast
One of the few things I learned from the VA dietitians at the Endo Clinic was that protein (which generally comes from foods which have fat content) consumed in the morning helps keep you satiated through the day and, hence, you eat less for lunch and also have a reserve of energy once the energy obtained from eating the carbs at breakfast runs out. I eat turkey sausage and turkey bacon. They both contain some fat but are low fat. Most importantly, they contain protein. The problem with the oatmeal/cereal routine is that you may be low fat but you are also high carb and low protein. So, I've been told, it's the protein and not the fat, although fat is a necessary component in the amino acid chain to help us with stored energy and to keep us from being anemic. Short story--- breakfast is important. Find your protein where you can get it. Don't get stuck in the traditional breakfast foods, i.e. bacon, sausage trap. For instance, I've discover Almond butter. High in mono fats, high in protein, no trans fat. Great on toast. Fat and carbs together. Energy now and energy later. I'm not thinking about lunch at 9 a.m. anymore. I keep the weight off doing nothing special.
Re: Eat Fat for Breakfast
I've also just discovered Almond Butter, Delish! I didn't know it was also good for you!

The key is to discover a method to get marbling in the jowls and haunches of the rat like they do with Kobe beef in Japan. I imagine they could be fed buttery popcorn. It might help to massage their little bellies - perhaps grow them larger. Heck, I'm not sure why they aren't growing nutrias instead. They're bigger, with more meat. Kobe rat, Kobe nutria. Fry up some hickory-smoked fattened rat jowl... I'm in.

Re: Eat Fat Rats for Breakfast
It really can't be more queasy making to most people then a Dutch smoked eel! Yummy yummy in my tummy but I can't find them here. They are about a foot long with head attached and when you squeeze the back of the head the mouth opens and closes and the office lunch rooms clears quickly.DreamDiver wrote:The key is to discover a method to get marbling in the jowls and haunches of the rat like they do with Kobe beef in Japan. Re: Eat Fat Rats for Breakfast
I've heard that they make unsuspecting foreigners eat such things in taverns in Holland. That would be hilarious just to watch the lunch room clear ...but I think I would have to leave myself. I must remember to keep a sandwich in my purse if I ever try that one.BlackSpinner wrote:
