Glasses Friendly Full Face Mask?

Post by Gia » Tue Apr 27, 2010 6:08 am

does anyone know of a full face mask that would let me wear my glasses - it wouldn't be my full time mask, but I frequently want to nap and watch TV. Unfortunately - without my glasses I'm blind as a bat and get migraines if I try to do anything with out them.

I'm a mouth breather so I really need the full face type. I thought of taping my mouth shut, but I couldn't tolerate even the smallest nasal pillows, and the RT tried several nasal masks, but they were all to big - not enough space between the bottom of my nose and my upper lip so all of them (even the smallest size) would fall on my lip.

POSSIBLY the ProBasics Zzz-Mask. There is no forehead piece and no center strap or piece to the bridge of the nose area - BUT I don't know about the glasses and the Zzz-Mask at the bridge of the nose area.

I'd suggest going to cpap.com and checking out the cpap masks, there is a choice of just full face masks to check out. Look at the picture of each one. Obviously any full face mask w/a forehead support is not going to allow the use of glasses.

I wonder if Respironics makes a full face similar to their old Simplicity simple nasal cushion?. I REALLY liked the Simplicity (and could wear glasses w/it) - but - alas - the lip flutters produced too much leak and I had to go to a full face.

Have you considered extended wear contact lenses? If you have to wear reading glasses, it may be possible for you to use mono-vision; where one contact lens is used for reading and the other for distant vision.

Only two glasses friendly FF masks I'm aware of are Hybrid and Liberty masks.

Yes the hybrid works quiet well with glasse,s I have used it with my glasses on when I wanted to read just until the end of the exciting chapter but was afraid of falling asleep.

This may be hard to believe but a couple of nights ago, I put my mask on, turned on the pump and sat up in bed with my laptop until I got tired. When I lay down to go to sleep I felt a pain in the side of my face. I reached up to feel for the problem and discovered that I'd put my mask on (full face Quattro) right over my glasses without realizing it. I couldn't believe it. The mask wasn't even leaking. I was afraid I may have damaged the mask or the glasses but no harm seems to have been done to either. Funny when you consider how hard it is sometimes to get your mask to seal up properly after putting it on and here I was with no leaks at all with my glasses on under my mask. Dumb.
Turns out you can wear your glasses with your mask! Not recommending this by the way. Just thought I'd throw it in as it actually happened to me.

A little off-topic, but I have long envisioned that some CPAPer, someday, will make a small mistake and accidentally invent a 100% effective sleep apnea treatment that cost 99 cents.

Hi,
The Opus 360 nasal pillow mask does not put any pressure on your upper lip because of the way the pillows are angled and the pillows run on the small side. You get all 3 sizes when you buy the mask. If you only plan a short nap on the couch while watching TV, you could try using this mask with a chin strap.

I would try the Hybrid or the Liberty.

Most of the nasal pillow masks would work probably, but if you normally use a full face mask try one of the above.

The Hans Rudolph 7600 V2 is another full facer that's got no forehead support in the way. Just throwing that one out there, too.
Cheers!

The hybrid is fully spectacle compliant. I've done this many times. It's easy(ish) to put on and remove glasses while wearing this mask.

With the zzz full face, you can drape your glasses over the nose bridge part, but it's not perfect. It will work if you need to read something now, or see a phone number, but don't expect to curl up with your favorite book. The glasses sit a little high, since they're not directly on your nose, but on the silicone hump just above your nose. It's easy to take them on and off, but it pinches behind my ears and on the area above my nose where they usually sit sans mask.

I've put my glasses under the forehead pad of my Ultra Mirage full face because there is enough space between the bridge of my nose and the forehead extension arm. However, again, it is not comfortable. It's also not easy to extract your glasses from your face just before you fall asleep. You have to take the mask off to remove the glasses.
