Can I use a PowerStation PSX?

Post by EGH » Sun Jul 25, 2010 12:09 pm

I just purchased a PowerStation PSX from Costco. It lets you jump start the car, inflate tires, and "run small appliances." The manual is relatively uninformative and I am not an electrical engineer. I have charged it up and it inflated my bike tires with ease. Do you think it will run my S8? I need something for camping and when the power goes out. I use an S8 Autoset II at pressure 11. It has a DC12V socket. Do I need a sine wave inverter? Thanks so much for your advice!

Couple of things to watch out for--using the humidifier changes the equation, and if you use an inverter, you need a pure sine wave inverter. Those are more expensive than modified sine wave inverters.

The manual above recommends using a converter instead of an inverter.

According to the Amazon.com description, the unit contains an 18Ah Battery, which should easily power any CPAP or APAP machine for one night; the only thing else that you will need is a DC power cable for your xPAP. This unit will not power your humidifier; even if it could, the added power draw would drastically shorten the run time of the battery.

Thanks for all the help. I'll skip the humidifier and buy a converter. (Any ideas where to get one cheap?) Thanks again for the great advice!
