RO/DI water ok in CPAP

Post by Greatwyte » Mon Sep 13, 2010 8:12 pm

I have an RO/DI system that I use to make water for my marine aquariums. I change the filters regulary and the TDS on my ouput water is 0 PPM. Can I use RO/DI water in the humidifier on my CPAP or must I use distilled water as recommended by the manufacturer?

Only if you distill it after you RO/DI it. Many will say it's OK, but some are reading challenged. Jim

RO/DI is better than pond water, no frogs in it.

It comes down to the instructions tell you whats right, then you do what you want anyway.

The reason for recommending distilled, is to avoid build-up of minerals. With your RO water having a TDS of 0, I can't see how there could be any mineral buildup. I would use your RO water if I had it. After all, I don't test the "distilled" water from the grocery store; I wouldn't be surprised if it had a TDS>0.

If, in fact, you do find some mineral buildup, give the tank a vinegar rinse.

I've been using tap water (albeit good-quality tap water) for over a year with no real problems. I've removed a minimal amount of minerals twice with vinegar, and used a dilute bleach solution once to get rid of the "fuzzies". (If you try this, rinse very well.) Vinegar might have worked for that, too.
