NasalCrom??

Post by trytryagain » Fri Oct 22, 2010 3:32 pm

Does anyone use Nasal-Crom for a stuffy nose. I've never had this problem until cpap, I don't have allergies, but I get so congested/stuffy. I've also been using a neti-pot a few times a week. The Nasalcrom says its not habit forming and has no rebound effect but it doesn't mention stuffiness from c-pap,only allergies.

I think it's one of the older nasal steroid sprays and should work if you are having allergic rhinitis.

Actually, NasalCrom is not a steroid. It works differently from the steroid based products and it is very specific for allergen induced congestion. NasalCrom prevents the release of histamine and other chemicals that cause stuffiness in reaction to an allergen. It doesn't do anything to reduce stuffiness from non-allergy causes or reduce stuffiness once it starts.

I would really doubt that NasalCrom is going to help if the CPAP is what's causing the stuffiness. However, as with all things in life YMMV.

Good Luck,
XJ.

It's not a steroid, it cromolyn sodium. I think it acts as a mast cell stabilizer, which keeps the tissue inside of the nose from swelling and the airway getting congested.

The reason they don't say anything about anything but allergies is that that is what they applied for and what the FDA approved it for. They can't say anything about treating anything but allergies without the FDA getting all over them.

NasalCrom does not start helping immediately. You will need to follow the directions and use it faithfully for a couple of weeks before it will make a difference. It's also rather expensive, and you must be faithful in using it all the time. If you can find other solutions, you may wish to pursue those that are effective with less faithfulness of use on the sufferer's part.
