swift and ayr nasal gel
swift and ayr nasal gel
As I recall, several posters recommended using ayr nasal gel to relieve the soreness that might accompany the Mirage Swift. Can ayr be used in the evening when the Swift is used or will the ayr gel interfere with the Swift or lead to its deterioration?

Non-petroleum based lubricants such as ayr gel or KY jelly will not damage the materials used to make cpap interfaces.
Petroleum based lubricants such as vasoline will, over time, break down the delicate interface materials used for seals and pillows

Recommended for use in the evening - night - just before you go to sleep, to protect you nostrils from the Swift.
By the way, the gels were recommended by Resmed respresentatives in a chat - and someone (Snork1?) ever said the AYR gel has "recommended for CPAP use" written on the box.
So use it freely, and don't worry.

Neosporin gives me a rash... heheh... so I'm hoping when I get my swift, my nose is just USED TO nasal pillows from my current device.

Neosporin uses a white petrolatum base and WILL deteriorate the pillows.mikemoran wrote:Ayr and KY definitely lubricate but if you are having pain you might want to consider Neosporin Pain Relief. It helps alleviate pain and also won't deteriorate the pillows.
Any petroleum based product will damage most cpap interface materials.

I've asked my DME three times (just for fun, lol) how to wash my mask and hoses and what to use. They have NO clue. They keep telling me to use antibacterial soap of "any kind". Lotions, chemicals, oh....who cares? How can they be in "the business" and not know the basics? Not surprising they told you Neosporin is fine!

I bought some in the drugstore yesterday. In the cold section, next to the saline nasal sprays.

AYR gel does indeed say right on the tiny little box that it is for CPAP use.
Neosporin is indeed petroleum based and not good for regular use on plastics.
I have switched entirely over to castor bean oil for my high performance nose lube with the Swift. It is plant based and so far I have seen no indication of plastic deteroriation with it. Although I do wash the interface contact points every day.
The castor oil has longer staying power during the night than AYR or KY and it heals while it lubes.
AYR gel or Castor oil can be bought at most drugstores. I notice AYR is no longer a special order item at our local store. It must be in higher demand with all the local CPAPers.

Actually, the ayr box says its for "soothing and moisturizing of dry noses due to" cpap (among other causes). There's no indication (unless anyone knows how to interpret the ingredients) whether it would interfere with the mask components if the ayr gel came in contact with them.
