Adjustable bed -- what a difference

Hi,

I used to be a dedicated side sleeper, but now that I M in sin. With my Quattro and have a bed that adjusts, I sleep on my back and awake in exactly the same position I was in when I fell asleep.

Now, before Ny starts writing about alleging on your back being a bad thing, my AHi is under 1 per hour. Clearly, when the therapy works, it is not contraindicated to sleep on your back.

The ability to raise my head and feet to different positions changes the way the mask sits on my face. It has done nothing to eliminate the sore on my nose, but the ability to shift the angle of my head does seem to affect the comfort of the mask.

like everything in cpap land, this ain't cheap, but between cpap and this bed, I am sleeping better than I have in decades.

Now, to lose the weight . wish there're was asomwthing that could help with that. Oh, wait. I do have something I can use to lose the poundage - my body!

I'm with you on adjustable beds! I've had one for many years now and love it....originally got it because of severe back problems, and while those have since been resolved, I do find it to be a great benefit with my cpap because if my bed is "up" a bit, I don't roll around as much which tends to wake me up because of the mask and hose.

I too used to be a side sleeper, but after decades of back problems have become a back sleeper. Fortunately, my apnea is not positional at all, so back sleeping is fine for me.

The only down side is that I've gotten so spoiled by my bed at home that I don't like to travel much anymore!

I don't have an adjustable bed but I slept in one for my recent sleep study and loved it!!! LOL! I am with you===anything for comfort, price does not matter. I think it would help my spouse as well as he has allergies and sometimes has to get up and sleep in the living room in his lazyboy recliner.

Did you buy any particular kind of adjustable bed?

Do you find that with an adjustable bed the mattress moves to the side and slightly off the bottom part? Mine does and I get aggravated having to re-position it on the bed all the time. I bought an Ergo adjustable bed. The adjustaqble part is made by Leggatt & Platt.
the mattress is different layers of latex made by Dormia.
I do sleep on my back now with this bed instgead of my side.

I think Leggett and Platt make most of the platforms for adjustable beds like the Tempurpedic and Select Comfort, and they seem to last for years! I originally got a Tempurpedic adjustable about 10 years ago now. LOVED it! Loved the mattress and the adjustability was heaven.

Now I have a Select Comfort and still using the same platforms. New hubby didn't like the Tempurpedic and likes the ability to adjust firmness with the Select Comfort.

The mattress moving problems seem to be solved by having a bed frame that helps hold them. I used to have the platforms (it was a king size so there were 2 xlong twin units) sitting inside a regular bed frame that had been modified to take the units. NOTHING shifted around. Now we just have the units sitting side by side and the mattresses do shift a bit, but for me its a small price to pay for the comfort.

Coincidence? But, I am looking into an adjustable bed because of a back problem & not because of my Sleep Apnea.

I got an Eronomic Bed, king size ( uses 2 twin mattresses) from Sleepland USA. DO NOT DEAL WITH SLEEPLAND USA. Th Ergonomic Bed has flaws, especially for the money. They dent rather easily and need to be switched around frequently or I am sleeping in a hollow. I complained about this to Sleepland USA, and they, after a month, took the mattresses back and sent new ones, claiming they had never heard of this issue before. The "new"mattresses had the same problem, and I think it's because the foam density is not high enough (sign of a cheaper bed). in addition, the mattress does move a bunch. I have to shove it back into place nightly.

having said all this, you'd think I'd hate the bed, but elevating head and feet makes all the rest seem like minor inconveniences. My CPU sell on buying would be to buy ONLY leggett and Pratt (leggett and brace) products as I now know they are the gold standard.

one big warning about sleep comfort: they grow mold inside. If you zip open the compartment after a year or so, you will see mold growing on the hard foam framing inserts. This is how I originally got asthma -- from breathing in mold sparers from my bed. there was no obvious smell, but the mold was every where.

Sleep comfort's response was, well, regular mattresses get moldy too -- you just don't know it. To which I responded, I am not talking about other mattresses, but yours. Will you send me replacement foam so I can sleep without mold. Not for free was the answer.

my mother had a legget and Pratt bed for 11 years and has never. Had a single problem; I fell for a sale and was a told that the Ergo was as good. Not so. On sale amounted to about $3000 for everything including delivery.

I have an adjustable bed its fantastic! Even in the evening when I'm really tired and cant get comfy on the sofa I go up to bed, sit it up and watch TV for a while then when I'm ready to try and sleep just press the button and lie down - its brill.

Help me understand, please? Is the adjustable bed the one where the head and foot can be raised, and the adjustable Sleep Comfort is the "air bed" mattress on an adjustable frame? And you can get all different kinds of mattresses to go on the adjustable beds? Can you get a king size with only one mattress?

With an adjustable bed, if it is raised up, can you sleep on your side? I know that a lot of people swear by Sleep Number Beds, but I have read such horrible reviews all over the internet stating that it sinks in the middle after awhile, mold, that it is a glorified air mattress and terrible customer service.
Has anyone heard of a SAAVTA mattress? It is not an adjustable bed, and you can only buy it online, but they have gotten rave reviews (on independent sites and pretty inexpensive).

I have a Sleep Number Bed...coming on 3 years next month I think it is.
I love it. Not the adjustable kind as I don't need that kind. Hubby likes really firm and I don't. This way we are both happy..
He's a big guy...got the king size...no issues at all with it sagging or feeling the "line" between his side and my side.
We did get the one with the pillow top and extra foam that we can change around...Innovation Series I think it was.
They had a Black Friday sale with 50% of those high end models which made it cost around the same as the middle of the road models.
For all practical purposes if feels like a luxurious pillow top mattress but we can adjust the firmness.
Comes in handy for me because I have a bad back and sometimes I feel better with more firmness and sometimes with less.

No issues with the mold that I also read about. I think that is/was a problem with the much older Sleep number beds.

We did make a point to save the boxes to return it during the 90 day free trial....but it took us only 2 nights for us to agree "burn the boxes". It helped my back issues a lot....didn't totally cure them but at least I can get out of bed and walk normally instead of hobbled over like a 100 yr old cripple.

I was in a bad car wreck some years ago....crushed my pelvis and broke my back (among other things). The Sleep Number bed didn't work a miracle but the improvement was significant. I am not totally pain free but it did help a lot. It also helped my husband's hip bursitis.

He's 65 and I am 62....it doesn't make us feel 30 again...but at least we don't wake up feeling like we are 100.

I don't think there's anything that makes everyone happy and people who are unhappy seem to be always more vocal than those that are unhappy.

Go to a Sleep number store and try it out...costs nothing but the gas to the store.
Should you decided to try it....use the 90 day return thing...be sure to save the boxes though...and read up on the return policy during that period of time and later. It's not perfect but as long as a person is aware of the policy I don't really think it's that big of a deal.

I have zero experience with the adjustable one though...that cost too much money and we didn't need it or want it anyway.

I love my adjustable bed. I have had it almost 10 years now and need a new mattress. My base is leggit and Platt and the mattress is Latex. You can not use a bed with springs with an adjustable base but can use Latex, memory foam, sleep number, and there are some new ones by Serta and Sealy out there now. I once in a great while have an issue with the mattress slipping but at the top not bottom. My issue is the sheets don't like to stay on the one side at the top when I keep the head up. My husband hates the bed so I wish we got a king with separate sides so he could sleep like a regular bed but our room is too small for a king.

Like someone else said it is so comfy that I don't like traveling and staying in hotels much anymore because of the bed.
