Fisher & Paykel ICON Auto

Post by Hueffenhardt » Sun Jan 09, 2011 2:26 pm

Since the F&P ICON Auto is relatively new, I thought I'd post a little about it. Most of what follows is summarized from F&P's website.

The F&P ICON™ Auto is the fully featured Auto CPAP which combines all of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s leading clinical technologies including their advanced Auto-adjusting algorithm and SensAwake™ Technology.

F&P ICON™ Auto PERFORMANCE FEATURES
Fully integrated Humidifier
ThermoSmart™ Technology for more humidity and comfort
Auto-Adjusting Pressure for personalized treatment during sleep
Efficacy Reporting
Compliance Reporting
SmartStick™
SensAwake™ to respond to waking moments
Proportional Ramp
Automatic Auto-Altitude Adjusting
Leak Compensation
Clock and AlarmTunes™
Advanced InfoSmart™ Technologies for flexible data communication options
Compact footprint
One piece water chamber that is dishwasher safe

ThermoSmart
ThermoSmart™ Technology, with its unique heated breathing tube, delivers higher, customized humidity levels that are maintained through the night, regardless of ambient temperature change. These higher humidity levels help maintain normal airway conditions without the side effect of condensation.

Quoting F&P site: "The clinical evidence to support the effectiveness of ThermoSmart™ is clear:

* ThermoSmart™ provides a more comfortable CPAP experience (Almasri E & Kline LR. Sleep 2007; 30(suppl): A190).
* ThermoSmart™ improves sleep quality and total sleep time (Nilius GN et al. Eur Respir J 2008; 31(4): 830-6).
* ThermoSmart™ lowers nasal airway resistance for 10% lower pressure (Massengill JS & Lewis KL. Sleep 2009; 32(suppl): A217).
* ThermoSmart™ virtually eliminates condensation even in a cool sleeping environment2 whilst delivering high levels of absolute humidity (All humidification level claims are based on the results of testing performed by independent test house Valley Inspired Products, June 2010).
* ThermoSmart™ is as effective as a nasal steroid in improving compliance and nasal symptoms (Powell E et al Sleep 2010; 33(suppl): A469).

Those who will benefit the most from ThermoSmart™ include:

* Patients over 60
* Patients on medication
* Patients who prefer a cold room
* Patients with pre-existing nasal conditions."

SensAwake
Again quoting from F&P website: "SensAwake™ provides fast and effective pressure relief when the patient needs it the most - while transitioning from sleep to wake. This allows the patient to experience a more comfortable and restful night's sleep...SensAwake™ does this by searching for a pattern of irregular breathing which occurs at the transition from sleep to awake, as shown in the flow signal below. SensAwake™ senses this irregularity in flow and promptly reduces the pressure to aid the transition back to sleep".

InfoSmart Technologies
Report Sections
1. Summary Data - Displays cumulative summary data from first use, as well as summary data for a 30-day period (Compliance Stats, Efficacy Stats, SensAwake Stats, & Compliance Metric).
2. Treatment Profile Summary - displays data for any consecutive 30-day period and includes summarized information on usage and efficacy data (AHI, Pressure, System Leak, & Usage and Humidity Profile).

5. Treatment Table Summary - (Compliance and Efficacy Data).

Sample Reports ( http://www.fphcare.com/userfiles/file/O ... heet_b.pdf ) ( viewtopic/t58055/Infosmart-software.html )

The SmartStick™ utilizes USB technology, which provides large data storage capacity. The F&P InfoSmart™ software provides a range of options to report the data to meet your needs. The physical SmartStick™ can be sent via the mail for data download, or the sleep data can be sent electronically via the web.

Sleep Data
To access basic sleep data on the display, turn the SmartDial™ to the Sleep Data setting and press to enter. Turn the SmartDial™ to either the CMS report (US only) or Patient report and press to enter.
NOTE: The model name will display while in the Sleep Data setting.
Turn the SmartDial™ to scroll through each of the following statistics:
• Total Compliant Hours.
• Average Compliant Hours over the last 30 nights. Press the SmartDial™ to access the average for the last 7 nights and again for the last night.
• Percentage of nights used greater than 4 hours over the last 30 nights. Press the
SmartDial™ to access the average for the last 7 nights.
• The number of nights used since therapy commenced.
• Check Sum.
NOTE: A symbol will appear on the Display Screen when the Sleep Data is within the compliance requirements. Once CMS requirements are met, the data within the CMS sub-menu will freeze.
• Exit the Sleep Data setting ( this symbol will only appear if Additional Sleep Data is restricted).
Additional Sleep Data (NOTE: this information may be restricted by your healthcare provider.)
• AHI for last 30, 7, and last night
• Leak for last 30, 7, and last night
• 90th percentile pressure for last 30, 7, and last night
• SensAwake™ for last 30, 7, and last night
• Exit the Sleep Data setting.

Notes:
1) Brightness of the clock display is adjustable.
2) User Manual ( http://www.fpicon.com/data2/F&P%20ICON% ... 6221_c.pdf )
3) Videos ( http://www.fpicon.com/videos.asp )
4) To access the setup menu: Make sure the smart dial is in the default position (where the machine would start if pressed once). Hold down the smart dial button with your thumb while simultaneously using your other hand to rotate the dial 360 degrees clockwise until you are back in the default position. Don't release the middle button yet. Rotate the dial one pitch counterclockwise, release the middle button and you will be in the setup menu with all the options in the top left quarter of the screen.
5) Clinician Manual - I can find posts of people asking for it online, but I haven't found a copy or contacts or directions for getting it.
6) InfoSmart software - It was for sale on an Austrailian website for $39, but that site has been down since the end of last November. But, it appears that at least one of the members here has a copy. (There apparently is some unrelated software also called "InfoSmart" which makes internet searches a little frustrating.

I have been using the Icon Premo for about 4 weeks now, (I think they are about the same just different features). Being that I am new to this and I don't have anything to compare the machine with any other ones, I LOVE IT, it has done wonders for me being able to finally sleep. I have also been trying to find the software but no luck, but I am waiting to here back from Fisher & Paykel about it. I will let you know when I find out more.

To me the software is necessary and would be a deal breaker if I couldn't get it. FP has always made excellent equipment. For some reason they are late to the party with enhanced cpap data but the first with an integral clock radio

There was a post on here about another model where the user claimed to get the software at no charge from an FP rep.

Good Luck

I bought and have been using the Auto for over 6 months now and I am very happy with it. The results have been great. As for the software, I have a copy but it only works on Windows XP. I have been in touch with F & P and they claim they were aware of an issue and were working on an updated version and I would have a copy sent to me. I have not heard anything.

Not only were they late with software, they always had a darn good humidifier, HC 150, and then put a heated hose on their cpap. What they never did was to put this heated hose together with the HC 150. After all the already had all the pieces and parts.

IF they did I think they could have competed with the much desired Aussie heated hose. And if they did so without the proprietary hose it could be used on ANY cpap on the market.

What are they thinking?

It was asked in another thread whether the ICON Auto is quiet. From what I have read the ResMed AutoSet is quietest machine on the market. The Icon is fairly quiet, but not quite as quiet as the ResMed. But, this is based on what I've read and not my own experience.

So I got a reply from Fisher & Paykel about the software. This is what I got back.

Thank you for contacting Fisher & Paykel Healthcare. I am glad to you
love your ICON. With regards to obtaining software to track your sleep
patterns, unfortunately we do not have a license to sell directly to
patients but you can contact your home care provider and they can help
you with your sleep data. Hope this helps and have a great day!

So now I will give them a call. At least I can check some of the stuff out right on the machine w/out the software.

As for the machine I love it. Now keep in mind that this is my first machine and I don't have anything else to compare it to. After not sleeping for almost 2 years, now I can. I do know that my wife and I were afraid of how loud some of the machines could be from what some of the ones my friends have. And I can say the only noise this machine makes is the air coming out of the mask. The machine makes no noise. I also like that the humidifier is built right into the machine, it makes it very convenient for traveling.

I am looking into getting the thermo smart breathing tube so I can stop the water spitting up on me. I am still trying to figure out what the humidity should be at.

When I get more info I will post it.

I did find out some more info on how to change the settings and it does works.

Fisher & Paykel ICON Auto, Premo & Novo: Make sure the smart dial is in the default position (where the machine would start if pressed once). Hold down the smart dial button with your thumb while simultaneously using your other hand to rotate the dial 360 degrees clockwise until you are back in the default position. Don't release the middle button yet. Rotate the dial one pitch contraclockwise, release the middle button and you will be in the setup menu with all the options in the top left quarter of the screen.

Re: Fisher & Paykel ICON Auto Smartstick Studio CD!

Post by edge » Mon Mar 21, 2011 3:41 pm

All along F&P advertises that you can load mp3 music into the machine so you can wake up to your own music. So I receive the Icon Auto machine and the instructions allude to using the Smartstick Studio CD to load your music. Looking all over and of course there's no CD. I ask my healthcare equipment provider on this issue and they have no idea what I'm talking about. I email F&P and they say it's not ready yet! They then email me back a few hours later and says i is available FOR SALE through your healthcare provider! I hate it when they do that!

Now Genox, who sold me my machine says that insurance won't cover it because it's not required for sleep apnea. Why doesn't F&P just ship it along with this $1100 machine for crissakes?! Now they have to nickel and dime me for the add on that I have to pay for &^#$@! When I get it I'm going.....

It's been 2 weeks and I can't seem to get this CD from Genox, my healthcare equipment provider. F&P tells me that it is already available and gave me a part number. Genox tells me that it's not yet available. What a mess.

The SmartStick Studio CD allows you to load your own music to your SmartStick.
Sometimes you can purchase the SmartStick Studio CD from your CPAP provider
or via CPAP Supply USA at:
