Devilbiss IntelliPAP or wich one as Travel Machine?

Post by sleepwellDE » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:25 pm

Hello,

we (my father and me) bought a REMstar M-Series Plus in 2008, wich was intended for use when sleeping outwards. Shortly afterwards we ordered the corresponding humidifier, because we found out that my father needs it every night - and I need it when sleeping in places with air-condition or low humidity because of heating. Unfortunately the humidifier is almost unuseable because of massive rainout - so we're thinking about replacing the CPAP by another machine. (Solutions like the Aussie hose or reptile heating aren't really suitablefor us, because we need a solution working both on 230V and 115V) Therefore it is essential to find out, if the new machine has the same problem, before ordering it. Besindes the humidifier there are a few other things that are annoying on the REMstar:
- loudness: referring to the specifications the M-Series does have 31db - our CPAPs used at home are at only 23db
- the huge power brick
- light emission: how can they put 3 ultra-bright blue LEDs into a device used next to the bed?

I found the Devilbiss IntelliPAP Standard Plus to be quite interesting, because it seems to be compact, not very loud (26db) and quite cheap. As this Brand and Modell is almost unknown in Germany (alltough sold as "SleepCube" I would apreciate to get some opinions and experiences, especialy from people using this device.

If the only was would be to go with a device with humidity control, wich would you recommend? The Respironics PR System One doesn't seem to be too bad either - alltough its weights allmost 3kg (6,5lbs), is a bit louder (29db) and features the same power brick as the M-Series.

Thank you in advance (and sorry for my english),

Fabian

Fabian: I'm bumping this up for you, as some of the folks here might be more active in the evening.
It's getting cold--good time for some screen time. I've been looking at this machine, too, for a relative who has no insurance.

It'd be worth a few minutes of your time to visit the most popular site that sells CPAP equipment and read the very first review of the Devilbiss Intellipap (2-22). Written by an individual with 6 years experience with a well known brand. The thing that caught my eye was the % of these machines purchased from this company and almost never seeing complaints in reviews by users. That one fact alone speaks well for the Devilbiss. When (if ever) my prescription is written that will be the machine I'll buy. I had it narrowed down to the auto S9 and it and the cost were not the deciding factors for me. No offense S9 owners and keep in mind I've never touched or seen either one.

I would consider the autoadjust model of the IntelliPAP unless you are SURE you don't benefit from the autoadjust feature, or know you don't need the data. This machine is self-contained, easy to set up and use, runs on AC or DC power (without a 'brick'). It is my go-to machine for camping, etc. The only caveat I would offer is if you have anything more complex than basic OSA, you might find this machine sometimes does not offer the best therapy. (Mine tends to overshoot on pressure a lot, but there is something unusual about my OSA/CompSAS problem). Even so, it works better for me than a much more expensive BiPAP machine I have, when I have to be away from my ASV machine.

The Aussie hose is 12V. A 12v 1 amp power supply can be bought at a hobby store very cheaply. An auto jump starter with accessory outlet will also work. Just use a M addptor . Or an old 420 power supply will work.

I don't really know wheter the AutoAdjust-feature would bring me any benefits or not. I don't think that I need the data, because I'm doing a homescreening every 6 months. The machine won't be used that much, because it's only intented for travel (the M-Series was used 102 sessions in a bit more than 2 yrs)

It seems to me that the majority seems to choose the AutoAdjust-Version, comparing the % of buyers choosing the corresponding device and the amout of reviews... The difference of 75 USD is not that much.

After having discussed with my father we decided that the Data from the AutoAdjust-device might not be bad - because the normal homescreenings only check if the actual pressure is high enough - not if it could be lower too.

Unfortunately cpap.com delivers with UPS - so the shipping is double the cost of the USPS-shipping of cpapplus.com.

Cpap.com doesn't charge for shipping when you spend over $99.00. Most Companies don't charge for shipping when you buy a new unit.

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

But still with 75 USD/150 USD shipping and 19% VAT it will be a lot cheaper than in Germany - the AutoAdjust is at 2063 USD here

It was a tough decision between S9 and IntelliPAP - but we decided for the IntelliPAP with humidifer and without SmartLink.

Thanks to all who helped with their opinions,
