What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
I am just curious with the weather changing, what temperature and humidifier settings others prefer. I have been getting stuffy at night and will be experimenting, but it would be interesting to see what works for others. Also, for those with an S9, how can you tell if your humidifier works? Mine doesn't use hardly any water on the 3.0 setting, maybe 1/8 depth of water. I am not sure it works. Thanks everyone!

Check this link to Resmed faq on humidification would answer your question .

Re: What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
Thanks, I had read through that the other day. By all appearances, my humidifier should be working. The light comes on for heat up, etc., but it doesn't seem to use hardly any water and the plate doesn't get hot, just warm. I know it isn't because the humidity level in the house is high enough to offset it since we have been running the furnace with no additional humidification. I was curious about other users personal experience with this. I probably need to call the medical equipment place and have them take a look. Thanks again!sol wrote:Check this link to Resmed faq on humidification would answer your question .

I experimented with various settings on my humidifyer and my best experiences have been not to use it.

Re: What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
Next month will be my forth year ... AND for what its worth ..... I put water in the tank in the fall & Winter when the air is dry & leave the tank empty in the spring and summer while the air is humid..
... Only kick the temp on or to #1-2 when I feel a cold or stuffiness coming on.
People normally don't do well in a humid world -- I also don't use any special water JUST what comes out of the tap < If I'm traveling I'll use bottle water to avoid Chlorine that I hate the smell!>
NOTE: The air you breath all day is filled with the humidity from swamps / lakes / Ditches none use distilled water < Only reason to use distilled water is to ELIMINATE hard water build up > The tank cleans out real easy with a little vinegar or lemon juice.
also saves you $$$$

Thanks fastwingguy and Bert. It sounds like less is more in terms of humidification.

Re: What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
It depends on many factors, including ambient humidity and temperature.
At 3.5 (before I hooked up the Climateline tubing), my H5i went through an entire tub in 8.5 hours in my very dry, pretty cold bedroom in New Hampshire. I now use the full Climateline setup at 80F, which seems to provide roughly similar humidification under my current conditions. That'll empty out a tub if I go over 9 hours on a weekend.
At the same setting in Cozumel, Mexico (312% humidity, roughly 80F ambient) I got rainout. After reducing to 3 I went an entire week without topping up the tub.

Re: What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
My humidifier has settings that range from 1 - 6. I use it on the 3 setting. Each night I put 200 ml of water into it and usually use most of that up. The amount used does vary a little, but it is rare that I run out.

I'm also curious. I know what humidity level I prefer on my S9 (1.5 or 2) but not sure what temp I should choose now that I have climateline. Anyone have thoughts?

I have settled on 3.5 and the water lasts about 3 days. I don't have a temp. setting as far as I can tell.

Thanks for all of the responses. I think I will have the medical equipment place come out and check my humidifier. From the posts here, I don't think mine works.

Re: What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
I've played with the manual settings and found I get the best experience by setting the combined (automated) setting to 80 degrees F. It stays the same summer and winter, since the climateline hose allows it to deliver identical humidity all through the year. There have been a couple times in the summer when I got a few beads of rainout inside my mask, but I suspect that would have happened regardless due to the ambient room heat/humidity.

Kimberly, before you do that, and Vulcan also. I see in your equipment profiles you have the climateline hose. If you are setting your humidity level by a number up to 5 or whatever, you don't have the the automatic climate control mode turned on. Two things, make sure the hose is turned to make the electrical contacts come together on the back of the machine, and that climate control is enabled in the clinician's settings.KimberlyM wrote:Thanks for all of the responses. Then try the system again with a temperature setting somewhere from about 65 or 70 up to 80+, whatever feels comfortable. The system will automatically adjust the humidity so that you get an air stream with about 85% relative humidity. Most everyone, but not all, find that using the automatic climate control with a comfortable temp setting works better than trying to manually set the humidity level.

I may have the wrong humidifier listed in my sig. There are no electrical connections in my air tube. But thanks for the suggestion anyways.idamtnboy wrote:Kimberly, before you do that, and Vulcan also. I see in your equipment profiles you have the climateline hose. Re: What Temperature/Humidifier Settings Do You Use?
I put in distilled water every night. But, I've found I breath best with no heat, just the passover at room temperature. I may wake up with dry sinuses but I've kept my mask on all night. If I turn on the heat, I usually find myself with the mask off after a few hours because I can't breath and in sleepy state, unwilling to put mask back on.
