I am about to have a repeat sleep study. My question is: What effect does sedation have on results?
Doc has said ok to take Lunesta or Xanax since I slept only 2 hours last time.
What does it do to the diagnostic criteria - ie. AHI, RDI, RERA, PLM etc
Thanks!

Re: Sleep studies and sedation - Lunesta, Xanax
I'm not sure anyone will have a definitive answer to your question. Most everyone will probably agree that it has some effect but to what extent, who knows? I guess a comparison of multiple sleep studies, some on sedation and some not, would be the only way to determine the effect. Bottom line is, you can't do a sleep study if you don't sleep. They encouraged me to use a sedative during my studies. Good luck.
