Buck Wheat pillow or Sobakawa cloud pillow

Post by grybeard77 » Sat May 14, 2011 9:11 am

Been looking for a better pillow for my aching neck and have seen several references in this forum about the Buck wheat pillow, (and it's smell). Searching found the Sobakawa cloud pillow full of micro beads, which evidently does not smell. Has any one used the Sobakawa Cloud pillow and found it worse or better than the Buck Wheat pillow???

I have same buckwheat pillow as LSAT. Never smelled funny to me either. I have used it continually since I got it well over 18 months now. Wonderful on my arthritic neck which has a metal rod in it. Other pillows mess with neck and cause headaches.

I never had any smell from my Regenesis Buckwheat pillow. I didn't care for it, though. Just didn't find it comfortable, but I don't have neck or upper back problems.

I recently purchased and used the cloud pillow and did not like it at all. It was too hard. My husband liked it but didn't like the size of it so if you get one, you might want to get the larger size.

I used a Regenesis pillow too some time ago. Hard pillow but the best for may neck problems.

I bought the buckwheat filling here in Montreal (from a natural food store) because of the shipping cost I only get sent the envelope. No smell at all.

I didn't like the Cloud Pillow....... I have the Regenesis™ Pillow http://www.pur-sleep.com/products/prodD ... rch=&page=
still have neck problems from time to time =BUT= allot less than before the Regenesis Pillow - worth the try!!
I think I have a zillion pillows in the closet that have made big clams!

Used in Asia for thousands of years, buckwheat hulls make ideal pillow stuffing material. They're light and bulky, absorb body moisture, and stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

When used in a semi-rigid, pre-quilted natural cotton shell, buckwheat hulls readily conform to the space between the body and the sleeping surface and once in place, do not shift even during active sleep, providing robust support right where you want it!

The pillow is easily adjusted to suit any sleeping position:

the other half has the Sobakawa cloud pillow and loves it. Personally its to soft for me.

i could use it laying on my back but on my sides it offers little to no support for me cause i wanna pillow to put between my shoulder and head and the Sobakawa cloud pillow isnt substantial enough. easier to find then the one with the husks is why he got it.
He loves it cause it doesn't heat up like a conventional pillow.

I have been using the same Sobakawa buckwheat pillow since the mid 90's. Obviously I like it. I have never had a bad smell from it.
I have emptied the buckwheat in the past by making a slit near the seam, washed the liner and refilled it when totally dry then slip stitched it close.

My question is: Has anyone switched over to the cloud pillow from the buckwheat? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

I am using Sobakawa Cloud Pillow. I think it's quite supportive.
It's smell is a problem for me. But after washing the pillow case, it's smell is much better.

I've got a newer model Regenisis pillow and it has absolutely no smell, not even when I took it out of the bag brand new... I can't say that for some of the other CPAP pillows I've experimented with. I like the fact that I can form it to whatever shape I need, for instance, a hollow for my mask to fit into undisturbed. Just press your fist in and smoosh it around however you like, plus it stays that way all night or until you re-mold it.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I have a buckwheat hull pillow, also from Pur-Sleep, called the CPAP-fit (possibly a Regenesis successor?). I got it from Amazon; go there and search CPAP pillows and it comes up first. It has no smell at all; perhaps that's a problem from earlier generations. It combines buckwheat hulls and some shredded foam, which is said to make it a little softer. Got it after my first sleep study, when I knew I was going to need some kind of therapy. That way there was only one thing to get used to at a time.

It works well; easy to smush into whatever head and neck support you need with whatever mask hollow you want. They send it over-filled; you remove a third to a half of the filling and save it, as the hulls eventually break down a bit. I had to experiment to get it just right, but it's worth it.

I just had to chime in here; I've had my BiPAP ASV for all of two days and this is about the only topic I could hope to give any advice on !

Darth Lady: I love your photo!

I've always said when I am using the hose, earplugs and a face mask (in places where there are no room darkening shades) that I should just have like a deep sea diver mask
that takes care of it all!
