swift fx exhale difficulty?

Post by goodkarma » Sun Jul 31, 2011 4:07 pm

I ordered the Swift FX after reading so many good things about it but don't understand how anyone can use this mask. I find the exhale pressure much higher than my resmed Mirage SoftGel -- so much so that I slept very poorly the one night I used it. It looks like a design flaw to me when I look at the diameter of the tube and the tiny vent holes compared to the softgel. On the other hand when so many people rave about the Swift, I figure I'm missing something.

Can anyone offer some advice? has anyone modified their swift to ease exhalation?

Thanks!

Sometimes, going up a size in nasal pillows helps. The shape of your nose can sometimes obstruct the holes in the pillows which deliver air and make breathing out harder. Usually a larger pillow size works, simply because the holes are bigger.

The holes in the vent may seem small, but they certainly expel air pretty hard--there's no way to escape their blast of cold air because of the angle of the vents.

thanks, I just switched up to the medium and compared the exhale difficulty with my hand blocking the tube and now it seems they are about the same so I'm not sure what's going on but I'll give it another try and will make sure to use my nose strips also. Can't remember if I did that or not on the first attempt...

You can also turn up the flex on your machine to give yourself more exhalation pressure relief. See if that helps, too.
