Hi,
New to CPAP. I have a weird problem (I think) when I use the CPAP. Before CPAP, I'd wake up with a dry mouth/throat as I was a mouth breather.
Now, with CPAP, I wake up in the middle of the night with very thick, sticky saliva. It's similar to how it is when I am fighting a sore throat. I think my immune system may be kicking in due to the new stimulus (the positive air flow). Anyone have a similar issue and solution?
Thanks!

Hi,
first it would be helpful if you register and fill out what type of equipment you ues, machine mask ect...
It is possable that you are mouth breathing with your mask on in which case a chin strap or even taping your mouth would help. When I mouth breath I to get the thick sticky saliva. I use a chin strap and it has taken care of it.
one other cause could be from the humidifer. if it is not set right ( to much or to little humidity).

The other answer might be GERD - silent acid reflux. It causes mucus to cover the throat in order to protect it.

Re: New to CPAP - thick. sticky saliva
according to your registration you use the Mirage Activa™ LT Nasal CPAP Mask. You are probably still mouth breathing if your mouth is dry. This means you are losing therapy through your mouth.
Try chin straps, tape or go to a full face mask like the hybryd

Keep a salt shaker by the bed. When you wake up with that problem, put a little salt on your tongue.Dukenilnil wrote:Hi,
