Washing your hose
Does anyone wash their hose? I don't mean running water through it and swirling it around, I mean putting it in the washing machine on delicate cycle and air drying it or maybe putting it in the dryer with no heat.
Just curious.
It doesn't seem to me like just running water through it and swirling it around does a very good job of cleaning it. The inside of the hose looks like a good place for bacteria to grow, especially if you use a humidifier (which I do).

I have mentioned this in other posts but we use "simple green" to Oxygen clean our diving regulatoras abd tanks that use oxygen or mixed gas. Simple green is non toxic. I use it to clean all of my cpap gear including my hoses. That combined withmikemoran's idea about a trombone brush sounds really neat.

I wouldn't use simple green...not until I hear back from their 800 number anyway! I'll let you know their response....I was about to try it because I like the pleasant smell of it, but I read the small print....it says not to use it on plastic instrument panels and that it can cause eye irritation becasue of the polyethyeneglycol (hope i spelled that right!)
This morning I used something called "seventh generation dish soap" which is not made w/the petroleum products or petr. distillates that some dish soaps use. If I want a minty smell maybe I should add some mint tea to the mix when I wash it and soak a for awhile! T

Simple Green
It is non toxic and gets washed off. It is used in several medical applications to surgically clean an environment. I mixed gas diving all our gear gets O2 cleaned with simple green. It is the only cleaner that will get rid of all of the particles that can cause O2 combustion. I have been using it diving for about 20 years and have never had any problems. Have been using it with apap for about 2 months with no problems.

washing machine
Using the washing machine as you suggested may do a great job of cleaning the outside of the hose, but very little with the inside since there is no circulation,
The green stuff will probably be fine if you rinse it out with clean water.
Beware of the answer from the green company.
They will probably give you a very self serving answer.
aka CYA.
They would probably not want to EVER suggest something that could remotely come up in a court case.
Is it too late for us to sign a quit claim deed for New Orleans and give it back to the French?

Simple Green seems like a really BAD choice. From their own website they acknowledge that their product is not a detergent, not a disinfectant. It is a surfactant, it breaks the surface tension, and allows water and other stuff to admix with whatever you put it with. The germs may survive, but they'll be CLEAN germs. That's an improvement!
What is wrong with SOAP? Especially the non-perfumed kind. Seems like a pretty good choice if the objective is to clean/disinfect. or maybe TSP if you wanna get brutal. Probably not as politically correct, (but who's gonna know?)

Washing your Hose
I am new to CPAP, and what I have done so far is once a week or so flush rubbing alcohol through the hose. I fill it about 4-6" worth, then swish it back and forthe several times. The I drain it and flush with water and air dry.
Thoughts? I know a brush will handle any buildup, I am more concerned with disinfecting and sanitizing.

I am a registered user, Marie, but the "thing" is screwed up again, and I don't really care anymore, this is the second time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, it still amazes me that cpap users don't simply follow the instructions on cleaning that everyone gets with their cpap equipment.
Detergent and vinegar. Why try anything else??????
Marie who is not a guest, but a registered user.
