adding Vicks Vapo steam (Liquid medication)
adding Vicks Vapo steam (Liquid medication)
I presently have a bad cold and use a cpap machine.
I've been using a vaporizer next to the bed at night for the cold to help break up the congestion in my sinus and chest. I add Vicks Vapo Steam liquid medication to the vaporizer. It occurs to me that my cpap has a humidifier attached. You probably know where I am going with this. Is it okay to put solution into cpap humidifier?
Probably not a good idea to put the vapor solution right into my cpap machine? Thought I'd ask anyway.
I am so sick of this cold because it won't go away........

In the room is OK, But added to the HH, NO!!! Also even from the room air you may have to change the filters more often, due to oils being sucked into the intake. Jim

I thought that would be the answer. Thanks for confirming that for me. I guess I am starting to reach for answers on getting rid of this cold. Sometimes I wonder if the machine is pushing the infection deep into my sinus cavities or something.

Colds trend to run their course, I use 2,000 units of "C", and also use "D" and zinc, lots of fluid and taking it easy. Jim

Quite apart from the vendors specifically sayimg "don't do it", a heated humidifier works in a significantly differently to a vaporiser, so there's really no pointcarojae wrote:You probably know where I am going with this.

I use the clear to help keep my sinuses open. Works great when I have a cold!

Same as Brenda, I use the Clear...but I would think you could put a drop or two of the Vick's Vapo on a cotton ball or something absorbent and just set that behind your machine near your filter! Hope the cold gets better, been fighting the allergies myself and it's no fun!!

I did put some on a cotton ball in a small dish. It kind of worked, but during the night the CPAP moved and knocked over the dish LOL.
I'd say keep going with the room humidifier, easier to clean up =)

No, the cpap does not do this. If your symptoms last for more then a week then you need to see a doctor because you may have pneumonia, bronchitis or a sinus infection and it was NOT caused by your cpap machine. It is an opportunistic virus or bacteria that is taking advantage of your reduced immune system and without your cpap you would be worse off since you would have less energy to fight it. The time I got pneumonia before I had my cpap machine was much much worse then the time I had it after I got my cpap machine.carojae wrote: Sometimes I wonder if the machine is pushing the infection deep into my sinus cavities or something.

I also use Pur-Sleep Clear as well as eucalyptus essential oils near the air intake when I have any nasal issues like allergies or colds. The oils don't last all night, but once your airway is open, the XPAP tends to keep it open until you remove the mask.

I, too, use pursleep's Clear for my sinuses. Love their products.....
